I agree about personality clashes being none of my concern. I haven't been here often enough for it to affect me. I don't let things that cyber people say bother me anyway.

Further, there was no name signed on the email that I received. That loses credibility with me. As does, airing "dirty laundry." I would think a moderator would have the decency to take care of issues behind the scenes.

Whatever the motive, it backfired, because receiving the email only encouraged me to come here to find out what was going on. It didn't encourage me to go elsewhere.

This is also my favorite Asperger community, so here I'll stay.

First: What "..other Asperger's site" would that be Alex? Hmm?

And Second: Are you insane!? You don't give out your phone number on a publicly viewable website!

I agree, putting your phone number on a site that the public can read is a dangeroud and very stupid idea. There are people out there who would use that for bad things, such as identity theft. That's a much more serious problem than other Aspie forums and sites, even that onthespectrum.net one.

I didn't get any spoofed e-mail either, but...going to other AS sites? Don't these people realise that we're not entirely fond of changes to our routine??

WrongPlanet has had a problem with someone from another Asperger's site spoofing email from our server. If you're not familiar with "spoofing," it basically means that someone is sending messages to users and the messages appear to be from someone other than the actual sender. This is illegal as it violates internet privacy and fraud statutes. I found multiple unsolicited messages which appeared to come from WrongPlanet staff.

We believe this to be a grave breach of trust and urge you not to respond with personal details to any emails that appear to be from WrongPlanet.

The email we found was written as if it came from a moderator on WrongPlanet.net. It urged members to seek other Asperger's Syndrome websites. Again, we're very sorry that someone is trying to deceive you in this manner and we believe that such actions are very low and immoral. Thanks for your patience as we deal with this issue.

Hmm, if this keeps up, I'm afraid this other site is going to launch a DDOS attack on WrongPlanet, and that would totally knock the site off balance.

I'll keep my guard up, but these spoofers are really pushing it - why would a group of Aspies do that to another? It's horrible.

Thanks for the alert, Alex.

HEY! Maybe they're doing the same things to other sites. If required, I could do some research to find out.

LOL!

Okay, I worded the poorly.

Let me try again.

Some people who know much more about computer than I do have suggested that the...software...platform...whatever....Alex uses for this site is very popular but very easy to hack. They have suggested THE SITE move to a more secure...software? Platform?

I, personally, am moving to the back of the room where I keep my chocolate cookies...

You have cookies? I haven't smelt any scent of them ever being there. LOL. What other Platform will be that's not set up like this site is set up? I know plently of other forums that use this same setup and I hadn't heard of anything bad happening on their site. Maybe put a firewall on the server that runs this site? Could that help? Mean while I would like to have some of your cookies.

Good fun, I say. I didn't get one of the e-mails (I just checked my underutilized Yahoo! account I signed up on WP.net with), but I'm aware of the other site and know there is a collection of pissed-off former mods from here.

Do they have reason to be pissed off? I have never been a mod and I don't get into the nitty-gritty of whatever disputes go on here (uninteresting), but they do have some valid points. They're taking their anti-WrongPlanet.net and anti-Alex Plank stance too far, though, in my opinion. This new website's identity is based almost entirely on its rejection of Alex and WP.net. In terms of new ideas and features, it offers little. Half the posts there end up getting posted on here and at other aspie sites too anyway.

This is not to let Alex completely off the hook, but it must be recognized that he is in college and has many other responsibilities and goals besides maintaining this website.

In my opinion, whoever wants to fight for king/queen of the aspie forums or whatever can go right ahead. In the end, it doesn't mean much anyway.

My goals are to improve the world at least a little bit for everyone I meet if I can and to make something of myself, not to have standing or so-called principles among a few people on the Internet.
