What is the point in telling everyone about Autism? For donations?

Other then that i dont see the point of the Spreading autism awareness because when it comes down to it, theres really no point, NTs are 99 percent of the world, 1 percent will never win.

Also NT's don't really care. They are too busy overpopulating the world or running up huge debts for their country's deficit to handle.

I did not know about Aspergers until October 2009 when I accidently caught a tv show about autism spectrum disorders. If we get the word out Aspergers people who have the traits will know to get themselves checked out like I did. This infor needs to get out for the benifit of other undiagnosed aspies out there many of them might have been like me thinking they were crazy.

Autism awareness needs to be spread because so many people with the condition get treated badly. Awareness seems to be increasing in the UK at least so that's a good thing. Usually when I am behaving in a 'strange' way and someone is worried, the explanation, 'she's autistic' is usually enough. Never had 'but she doesn't act like Rain man' or 'can she do times tables up to 40589682?' (random number!) The most important area to spread awareness is in schools to develop better strategies to stop bullying of vulnerable kids and also the emergency services as many of us will have had some kind of meeting with them during our lives. In the county I live in, the police are being trained on how to spot an autistic person and cards are being given out to autistic people to show the emergency services if we are struggling.

But yeah I expect a lot of it is probably fund raising...

When people see my son having trouble or behaving unusually if I say the autism word, a flicker of understanding crosses their faces. Usually they have seen something on TV about it.
So to me its not about 'winning' anything, it's about spreading knowledge - and with knowledge comes understanding of something and with that comes acceptance.

One word: education.

That's all I'm contributing to this thread.

I think selective 'education' among the people I know is better than mass campaigns. My approach to all politics is the same.

Most people with the puzzle bumper sticker have only a faint idea of what autism is. They don't seem to realize there is a spectrum, or the range of said spectrum.

Maybe we should all fold up our chairs and go home. Descend back into the shadows, accept our status as marginal citizens of little value, nay, accept that we are odious burdens to the productive members of society.

Screw Autism Awareness. We are worthless meat sacks draining resources from the deserving.

(In deference to the literal thinkers among us, I must admit that I am being entirely facetious)

My college puts on some events to teach the public and wider college about AS, having Aspie students speak about it and dispel some nasty stereotypes.

And what's your definition of "winning"?
