Enduring Social Problems: What am I doing wrong?
I'm a 20 year old college student. I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at 15. I enjoy politics, law, personal philosophy, etc. And my IQ was tested to be 135.
I was always seen as dumb by my peers. To those that didn't know me better, I was an idiot. It seems as if every time I open my mouth, there is always someone that things that what I am saying is idiotic. Often times I feel that others misunderstand the point I am trying to make.
Small talk is hit and miss with me. I could never grasp it, and I usually dive head first into a subject upon the start of a conversation. A few people appreciate that and reciprocate, the majority of others do not.
I have spend years studying psychology and such concepts in an attempt to better relate to my peers. I've studied topics from single-motherhood to teen psychology. I still have trouble speaking to people, though.
I was told that the best solution to this would be to obtain more "mainstream" interests, such as clothing or reality TV, pop culture and the like. I've tried this, and celebrity gossip and other such topics just bore me and defy my personal logics and values systems. This can not be the only answer, though.
So, what else do I need to be doing?

The only thing you should be doing is finding groups of people with interests more similar to your own. I really hate to say it but at your age, it's difficult to find girls who are interested in more than the things you listed above, especially if you go to a community college (I'm not sure if that's the case). If you to a university you might want to look into different student clubs or groups. Occasionally they even have a group for people with AS or who have socially difficulties. This is sometimes offered through their psychological counseling center.

more specifics.
give me a few examples of what you have said that others thought was idiotic?
I cant tell you what I think is amiss here unless I know what is going on in your communication.

I've had problems over saying things such as:
Adding to sociological discussions: "These statistics fail to adequetly describe such and such because they don't take regional differences into account and..." leading into a debate of accuracy.
"Slavery was not the MAIN cause of the Civil war it was just one of them, taxation without respresentation was a big one too. Taxes were being imposed on the South without representatives for the South to fight them."
When people ask me what I like I or what kind of person I am I have a hard time answering and usually say things like: "I just work and go to school... I like fords and racing and so on". That seems to bore them.
These examples are recent, the worst being the reaction I got when I stated "Average stun guns have about 100,000V. A hit of 450V would be nothing."during a class discussion.

umm I dont think it is you. Let me guess, you live in the south where women are expected to be stupid and agree with everything everyone else says.
Been there done that...t-shirt.
Women's lib never happened in the south. Women still have to get permission to cut their hair or change make-up by either their partners or their father. No joke...no lie. It is true.
The south cant have brainack women running around, there might be a revolution.
So what do they do...they make you feel bad for saying something intelegent. Had a sothern man said any of those things, he would not get that treatment. People would agree and women would swoon.
double standard.
