I've noticed that on occasion my head will suddenly jerk to the left, involuntarily. My entire life I've referred to these as "chills" because I assumed that's what others meant (some kind of involuntary movement) when they said, "I got the chills just now." Normally, I will pretend I intended to turn my head to the left when I'm in public (i.e. waiting in line, classroom, talking to someone) by looking at something to the left of me after the chill/tic then look back straight ahead again.

Is this a motor tic, a chill, or something else? Also, what causes it?

Seems like I can get that from sudden temperature change from hot to cold or even cold to hot. Either outside in hot humid summer weather walking into a cold air conditioned store, or just as easily in a cold dank morning getting into a hot shower.

That happens to me a lot. When it happens, I cover up with a blanket or if it's late enough, I go to bed.

I get the same thing! on the left side too! on some days I get them alot. over and over. on other days not at all. sometiems they are so bad I make a groning noise! I can't control it! I have had it for years. A few times it has spread to include my arm which will have a jerk intime with my head going to the side. and even less often my leg too. somtiems I get a strang sensation at the back of my neek first like a tingeling and I know it is going to happen. Sotimes at night I wake up with limb jerking and I somtiems see colours too. but that sort of thing is only at night. Once I woke with my whole left side twitching very rapidly I freaked out but it stoped after a minute and I felt fine. somtimes though my head jerks to the side so strongly it hurts my musle and I'm sore for a while after.

Yeah, I get that. It's a tic. Nothing to worry about unless it starts happening so much that it interferes with your life or gives you muscle soreness.

I get the same thing, but on the right side. I always assumed it was just sort of an involuntary stim thing. It seems to happen more when I'm working to control my stims.

I'm right-handed. But I'm kind of weird because my physically dominant hand is my left one. So, for instance, where as when most right-handed people go to cartwheel lead with their right hand, I lead with my left. Which I'm told is an indication that I was born naturally left-handed and was trained to use my right? (My mom's REALLY big on appearances... >>;)

Yeah, sorry for being difficult. lol

I have it too.

My head/neck and shoulder jerking is one motor tic that accompanies me on and off and in alterations for years now.

I do feel something akin to a chill preceding it. (Didn't as a kid.)

This sensory tic precedes my motor tics and the one often preceding head/shoulder jerks is so... prominent?

When it isn't there (or I just fail to notice when distracted), I have much less control over how the tic shows and when it's real strong, I'll just tic right away because it's beyond my influence.

It totally reminds me of a chill running down my spin but it is different. A chill from cold is different.

I had the sensory tic/chill-like-thing yesterday evening and had real chills from the cold. Way different. A chill (the real one) is also more uncomfortable to me. I felt so cold for just walking outside a minute or so, winter's so on the way (where's my summer gone to?).

I've never thought of that as anything like a tic before. It's always preceded by "chills" in that my body is acting like its cold despite in to being so. It goes towards my right, and I am right handed.

I guess it's just because we have a quirky sort of neurology. You have to expect misfires occasionally. It doesn't bother me or anyone else, so I don't bother myself about it.

Every so often, I'll get a sensation similar to shivers going through my body, not related to anything particularly exciting or scary going on.

For those of you who have similar issues, some psych meds can cause things like that if you didn't notice it before you started them.

Probably tics. I get the odd one or two a day (that I'm aware of), but they're usually minor, i.e. a slight jiggle in the leg, shaking the head, etc. and not painful.
