Has anyone been psychotic before?

According to the doctors I have psychosis. I have many delusions (according to outside people) and I also hallucinate occasionally. As I said in the delusion thread, I believe I influenced world disasters and the government put devices in my room including a mind reading one that sends my thoughts to the CIA or FBI. They also control me because I almost have different personalities and one of them is a bird. In that mode I believe that I can fly and I speak in a weird language. I actually feel some outside force controlling me in that mode. Then my other mode can't complete a sentence correctly. It comes out all mixed up!! I get all confused in that mode. I also think that everyone is reading my mind when I'm out in public. My hallucinations are not that bad since I am on medicine. I just see things such as people, flashing lights, black dots all over the place and hear things like my name being called or a conversation and sometimes noises. Nothing major. I also freeze in one position when I'm trying to do things, even in the middle of eating or typing this! I want to know how common is psychosis with autism or Asperger's? I see that most autistic people have delusions according to the poll, but how many have actually been diagnosed with psychosis? What was your experience like when you were psychotic? Did you have to go to the hospital? I've been in the hospital 3 times in my life. How long did your psychosis last? What did you do to treat it?

People have said that I had Psychosis but I didn't think of myself as crazy.

I had mild depression-related psychosis for a while. It's hard to say how long yours will last, as it's different for everyone. I hope things get better for you soon.

I have been and I believe I was set up by people. They say i was delusional, but it probably was a lie

If I take ibuprofen I sorta go nuts.

I've had delusions and hallucinations, but they were caused by me being on all sorts of psych medication that I had bad reactions to. Since I stopped taking them I have no more psychosis.

I've had depression related psychosis for a while, as well. I think that I might still be dealing with it.

Apparantly I did back in earlier high school, although I don't remember spefically what I did or how I was acting.

Psychosis is not a symptom of Asperger's. Certain Asperger's behaviors might be interpreted as psychosis.

Psychosis can be caused by various things. For example, drug allergies, manic depression, or schizophrenia.

It sounds like you are suffering from either schizophrenia or an extreme case of paranoid personality disorder. Not Asperger's. Hallucinations, incoherence at times, and elaborate theories such as yours, in combination, seem to lead to those possibilities. Of course, I'm sure you already know your diagnosis.

Two psychiatrists I saw thought I was schizophrenic. I don't have visual or audio delusions though.

yes. i went crazy about two years ago. because of stress in my life and was put into an institution for about a week. overall it was like the closest thing to being in prison i could imagine. you were basically told when to eat, sleep, let out of the building for an hour, to get some sunlight. it pretty much sucked and i will never go back

Psychosis is not uncommon in Aspergers in the teenage and early adult years (check ICD), what with the hormone changes and the extreme stress many of us go through at those ages.

To answer the main question of the thread, yes, I experienced a psychosis when I was 16/17. I didn't hallucinate. I was mainly delusional and paranoid. The meds they put me on didn't help at all (the antipsychotics). For me, the biggest help was when life calmed down and got more stable (prior to this I was having a lot of family troubles and it was just too much to handle). I was delusional off and on till I graduated high school (I just barely graduated). I started calming down after that. Finally a couple years back I got off the meds (thankfully!) and have been good since.

The biggest thing that seems to trigger my depression/anxiety and/or delusional/paranoid thinking is STRESS. The calmer and more predictable life is, the better I am. So maybe, Firebird, you can take a look at your life and try to identify your stressors and then see if there's a way to relieve them at all. Also working to see what is reality and what is the delusional thinking and hallucinations is a good step. Get your grounding a bit.

Make sure you're eating well, taking care of yourself, have a consistant and routine sleep schedule, and exercising, as well as seeking out support from people who can help you when you're stressed or confused. Just like you're doing now.

I've been psychotic before....not fun...definitely not fun.

I suffer from psychoses as well as AS and OCD, my psychoses caused most problems at night, I have found that prochlorperazine and amitriptyline works very well and also helps with anxiety. Amitriptyline and Perphenazine would be more suitable for people who do not use Fluoxetine for OCD.
I did try Risperidone for a while and it helped with my psychoses but not with anxiety.

Sounds oh so familiar. That happened to me. Too much stress. I started thinking I was leaving dents in floors etc...my psychosis seemed to be related to my eating disorder tho in that every repetitive thought was related to my heaviness. I cannot describe the feeling of being caught in that world. It was fuzzy and frightening. I was kept in hospital against my will for 6 weeks, confined to my room on 24 hour watch due to self harming tendencies, and not treated very well. I have feared it coming back ever since. This is the first time I have mentioned it on a forum as I always felt ashamed of it. It sounds kind of bad, doesn't it, psychosis...

I get extremely manic. Does THAT count? Although,I do recall a time where I MIGHT have been slightly psychotic.
