Frustrated and confused Teacher
I have not checked my post because I forgot to click for emails to come when a reply was made and I didn't think that anyone would read it, let alone write back! Wow! You have all cheered me up immensely. From those with shared experiences and the hilarious video, I am laughing and feeling less alone with my situation.
@mrbluesky - I am currently working on using some kind of electronic organizer to help me remember everything. My mom used to always tell me to make lists and I would wrinkle my nose at the idea because the truth was I would make 10 lists and then not be able to find a single one! If I can get a working system it will definitely help.
@moondust and polarity - I sometimes get jealous that I don't get as many gifts as the other teachers, but then I remember that I am an itinerant teacher, so many students don't really work with me, though they may know me. And, I don't build relationships with them the way the other teachers do. I used to never understand, and still don't, but I do realize it is part of AS and I guess for now that is as much an answer as I need. However, every now and then a student slips through the cracks and we are able to connect. That always means a lot to me when that happens.
@omegatyrant - I hear you loud and clear about what public schools want in their teachers. Not to mention your's and everyone's comments about the school politics (ugh!). I just read a great book called Quiet - the power of the introvert in a world that can't stop talking by susan cain. In it she talks about exactly what you said - how schools want outgoing conversationalists, not intellectuals or slow and deliberate people. Cain calls it the culture of personality. Ugh!
@torquemada - the video is hilarious! Thanks and it def cheered me up
@glider18 - wow! you really understand teaching! what you describe as your job as a middle school reading teacher is exactly all i have been since becoming a teacher. Just as you say it is not a great avenue for creativity and engagement with students. I am very burnt out with it. It is my plan to spend this next year looking at other was to do special education such as self-contained that might give me some more privacy and distance from other teachers as well as a platform to be creative and bring my interests into the classroom.
Thank again to everyone for the feedback! I have read each post and you have all been welcoming and supportive! I am sorry I could not reply to every comment.
