You can't trust anyone, so I don't tell anyone. Unfortunately.

I've only ever told my wife - but she doesn't believe me either

My sentiments exactly.

I voted "in".. i don`t want any of my so-called friends to know, i have told a couple because they understand, but no anyone in my class. I don`t really dare because i would be more of an outcast than i`m already are.
They`ll probably think i`m an psychopthic freak or something because they wouldn`t understand what it means to be an Aspie.

Well said Mr Wizard. I was relieved to finnaly know why, but I prefer to be In. It's enough work to engage socially let alone explain this. Though I suppose one could remove the closet by coming out while saying: go look it up.

Why is there a closet that you "need" to come out of in the first place?

I have told VERY FEW people I know offline about my AS, so I guess I am *mostly* (but not all) " in the closet". However, with people on the Internet mostly because I don't really care about them judging me or telling other ppl, I am a bit more open, especially on a site like this one. I only remember one friend I have offline that I have told about my AS. One time, my dad told a person that I consider now my ex-friends about my AS. That is when I also first really knew I had AS, though I had been diagnosed years ago. They didn't tell me. Looking back, at that incident, I did NOT like it at all that my dad told them.

I used to be able to count on one hand the number of people that knew but the number has increased. In general, I prefer to not let people know as I feel they will a) not believe me, b) think of a stereotype and c) go on to treat me differently based on the fact I've disclosed this personal information.
