For those who don't know what mbti theory is, its basically a personality created by a psychologist/s (?). Does autism make you very different compared to others of the same type? Do you think there is a correlation between mbti type and autism?

Personality as defined by NEO-PR or MBTI are largely personality specific traits you are born with and not necessarily linked to autism

The most typical ones are INTJ and INTP. Since J and P are a subtle distinction INTx is pretty common too. Don't think we're all NT types though. I've also encountered ASD ISTPs and there could even be ASD INFPs. Unsurprising I haven't met many ASD E types.

I test as either an INFJ or INFP. I think INFP is the correct one.

INFP

For descriptions of types, you might want to look at this

I think that might mean that you are near the middle of the J/P spectrum - a balanced quality!

ISTJ with a wobbly S/N. I used to test as an INTP/J.

I adopted a strong sense of duty to adjust to my very official career, and that may have thrown it off toward ISTJ, which is very dutiful.

You'd think our primary means of interacting with the world would be senses, though, not intuition, as our senses are so strong they overwhelm us.

I'm definitely INT but for P/J I sit in the middle of the bell curve.

The problem with a system based on dichotomies is that most people sit in the middle of the bell curve. That's why they call it a bell curve. MBTI is interesting but in this regard I find it lacks nuance.

I did the same. The real me is INFP but I needed to be INTJ for the job, so I did. E instead of I would have been good too. The thing is, that's just not healthy. The strain is too much and then there's the social aspect - people think they know you and they really haven't met the real you.

Jung didn't intend it as a measuring device. He said that psychiatrists (like him) need to communicate about personality and so he suggested this. He warned against pigeon-holing.

I've never heard of problems with a bell curve before and I'm puzzled. It's not a test in the sense of math test for example. The middle of this spectrum would mean "balanced" and not "average." I would like to hear more about this - I'm curious. I hate to think I'm missing out on something.

I want to tell you that we are 6 in our family. One of us is the oddball. I thought he was a flake, a weirdo, although Mom insisted we treat each other with respect. But one day, studying the MBTI, I found my oddball sib. That was when I found out Jung thinks my sib is a perfectly acceptable human being. It changed everything. That's why I stick to it so much.

I've always tested as INTP across different MBTI surveys. Used to take all kinds of tests like that for fun but analytical psychology doesn't do it for me like neurobiology being used for psychology. Psychology just get's too subjective for me sometimes, we assume we can know so much with scant evidence.

So I don't know how well I trust typology, it seems to me that your answers to the questions represent some inclinations but even if you choose all introvert options you may not have a problem at all being social, may not avoid them nearly as much as the test results would suggest. Not to mention that some of the questions you might feel different about on a different day and there are generalizations about each type. Simply because I "perceive" does not mean that I am a cluttered person or that I never draw any conclusion. It just means that I have a different, slower process. I prefer Socratic ignorance to willful assumption.

It sounds sort of like how people use BMI for weight loss when originally it was intended for famine relief.

What I mean is, for those four switches, it says people are one or the other but I think of it as four bell curves. In a bell curve there are always more people half way in between so if I'm an INTPx the most common type of person would be xxxx.

I'm a strong ISTJ on every test.
