Recently, I have seen a rise of people debating that undiagnosed people are fakers such as this post for an example. https://www.reddit.com/r/hatethissmug/c ... ed_autism/

My dad has claimed I was misdiagnosed as a toddler. I don't know why my parents never did another appointment again. It is too late now since getting an assessment cost thousands of dollars in my backward's country. (US) I do have a gut feeling I am at least neurodivergent. I have a learning disability and still struggle with social skills. I also have some fixations though I think NT can also have fixations too. I often hum which I heard is considered stimming. Had panic attacks throughout the years. Correct me if I am wrong with some of these details.

I don't know if I am allowed to be on here anymore. Maybe I don't have autism. Maybe it's something else.

I always thought it's something else in my case :? Like psychopathy in my childhood and schizoid personality disorder in my teenagehood. But then I found out that something like Asperger Syndrome exists... and then, back in 2003, I finally realized what it could be. Because I have practically all the symptoms that match my own symptoms exquisitely well. Even my mother who was always very embarassed with me and my weirdness, does admit it's probably ASD - even my psychologist told me during our first meeting that it's most likely Aspergers. Because what else could it be? Some months ago, I made the list of all my symptoms - it turned out it's as many as 60 symptoms that I put on it. I would be greatly surprised if it was something else. It was obvious I was not like others even when I was a toddler (things like hyperlexia, dyspraxia). The overwhelming majority of the self-diagnosed is people who are much more normal than myself. And practically everybody deals with life MUCH better than myself. :x

Given that WP is welcoming to both clinically diagnosed as well as self diagnosed autistics, in addition to non-autistic individuals, I figure it doesn't really matter. If you experience the symptoms you do, then even if you aren't autistic, the symptoms are similar enough that you're still in good company.

Having a formal/official Autism diagnosis is not required to be on Wrong Planet.

Having an unofficial Autism diagnosis is not required to be on Wrong Planet.

Having a suspicion of possibly having Autism is not required to be on Wrong Planet.

CORRECTION:
<=>A polite interest in Autism is the entrance requirement expectation.

While I do agree that autism is being overdiagnosed these days, I would never doubt anyone who says themselves they have symptoms that affect them in some way, as you know yourself more than I know you so who am I to judge a stranger on the internet about their mind lol.

I got doubted on an ADHD site. Someone asked me if I really have ADHD or if I'm just "following the trend". Um, no, I definitely have ADHD, quite severe in fact. It makes me unique and I have typical ADHD-related struggles, and as a child I had physical and emotional hyperactivity that made me a challenge for my parents.

Mine most certainly do :x To a VERY big extent. But I'm well used to it. If someone else could exchange their life situation for mine, they would most certainly think I'm the very queen of losers but I'm well used to the fact I'm not like others, unfortunately :|

You are welcome here and for the record ... I'm also neurodivergent diagnosed. But you are right, the USA is backwards and fails in comparison to other countries under T~R~U~M~P. God help us is we even get close to Rubio and Vance.

You're welcome here even without formal diagnosis.

Don't worry, I doubt I will ever leave. :) This website is the more positive spaces I have been to so far. During WP's shutdown I was hanging out in a mental health forum and unfortunately I had some bad experiences on there. I've only come across one bad apple on here but it wasn't even that severe

I'm glad you're staying! I think you should be on here.

I just posted in the topic ‘Patience’ Star Ella Maisy Purvis, post #13 links to series 2 of Patience, and a link to a BBC interview of Ella Maisy Purvis, who plays Patience. Both are autistic, but tell me: from the BBC interview, would think Purvis is autistic if you met her?

I've put myself down as "don't know if I have it or not", by which I mean I think I might have it, but I can't get a professional diagnosis. I think the (American?) fad of self-diagnosis is easily abused, so I refuse to go for that. My primary (sole) diagnosis is OCD, which entails a lot of doubt, even self-doubt, but is co-morbid with autism.

Purvis tried to get an autism diagnosis from the UK's NHS during the Pandemic, but was refused because she "made good eye contact", and a diagnosis would make her liable to "deprivation of liberty" (read: thrown in a police cell) if she had a "meltdown" in public. The NHS seems to be reserving diagnoses for the most severe autists. Purvis got a private diagnosis, because her parents could afford it. Like you, I can't though.

This global retraction of Aserger's syndrome has worked against those of us who fail to meet the NHS's stringent citeria, but still struggle with things NTs seem to breeze through. As Purvis said, the NHS diagnostician told her she seemed to cope well, but Purvis pointed out she was there for a diagnosis because she hadn't.

Fixations can be OCD, or look like OCD. I sometimes wonder if autists' OCD is different from NT OCD, hence the co-morbidity, but the psychiatrists have missed this. (They are so bad at understanding OCD anyway.) I'm curious though, which mental health forum? Also, is your learning disability academic?

Hi, I appreciate your comprehensive post. :) Sadly, there is an exclusion of females in autism research and then there's the stereotypes that worsen the situation. Just now I saw some misogynistic misinformation on a r/autisticpeeps post.

To answer your questions. I try to keep my internet presence private but I can DM you the name of the website if you like. I feel my interests and how I type are unique, so I won't be surprised if AI ever gets better at finding specific users, I would be easy to find lol.

As for your last question. I really don't know. I was put in a special needs classroom throughout the years. Ever since my late elementary years I finally was able to join classes with the "regular" kids. (I pardon if the way I phrased it offends someone) But I still had periods of learning in accommodation classrooms.

Language arts is my easiest subject matter. Math on the other hand is my weakest subject. I have a gut feeling I have dyscalculia.

I was also put in a special needs classrooms throughout the years all up to graduation because I was misdiagnosed and they didn't know much about Autism then, and now, I'm in this fight in adulthood to get proper care and its very hard. I hope you feel better and I'm glad you are going to stay here.

I imagine my parents had no ill intentions. But it made me wonder what they thought of autism at the time. I don't blame them because during my generation it was demonized in the media and there was a lot of misinformation. My mom suspected I have autism while talking with my sister a few years back behind my back. My sister was told to keep that conversation secret so I have a bad feeling my mom views autism as a negative thing.

I guess I rambled on too much lol. Anyhow thank you Exec! I wish you well too. :)

Being officially autistic or not doesn't matter here. Especially these days. This place has gotten too underpopulated to be choosy. Plus you provide enjoyable company.
