I think I've posted about this before, but I just had a "rude awakening." I looked at a drawn blind and thought "it looks like it s nice outside" I lifted the blind and it felt like my ocular nerve burst into flames. Fluorescents do the same thing if I look directly at them. Sometimes when I come out of a store I almost get run over because I can't look up because the pain is too much. I know this is common for us, but I was wondering what percentage of Aspies has this particular neuro integration problem.

Not as bad as that. I have to squint even on cloudy days though.

If I don't have sunglasses on and it's sunny outside, the glare is too much for me but that's only since I started wearing sunglasses every second I am outside. It made my eyes even more sensitive to sunlight.

I wouldn't say that it physically hurts but I'm definitely more sensitive to it than the people around me.

Not all light hurts my eyes, of course, but some types do.

When I was in junior high I had the idea for a science fair project where I wanted to study which are people's favorite/least favorite colors dependent on which colors hurt their eyes.

Physically hurts, but not as bad as you describe. I find the UV the worst - blocking UV but not reducing the brightness does a huge amount for me.

I wouldn't say that sunlight burns my eyes, but I'm more sensitive to it than a lot of people are.

My eyes hurt in bright light...moderate light even.

I'm fine until I have to walk across a parking lot in the middle of the day with no sunglasses. Then I'm nearly blind.

I went for "no more than the normal person" because whilst sometimes the brightness is uncomfortable and I'd rather avoid it it'd be a stretch to say it "hurts". And besides, I've no reason to think my reaction is any worse than most people.

Not very much. I used to be able to stare into the sun without squinting, but now I squint. When I squint, people who walk by get mad at me for 'glaring rudely'. :? I know this because they will tell me to stop it, or they will stare at me as I pass, then keep staring at me from behind.

Before I found out that I was an Aspie, my wife would tell me to stop it all the time, to which I would reply "I can't see."

It's not so much that it hurts - I think the only light that actually hurts me is intense enough to hurt NTs too - but bright lights always grab my attention even when I'm trying to ignore them. If I go with it I can stim with the light and have fun, but if I try to ignore it I get overloaded and can't function. I tend to always angle my body so I'm pointed away from the light source.

I can certainly see, but it's so painful that even on cloudy days I require sunglasses.

i wont say it hurts, but light is uncomfortable; which is why i always have sunglasses with me, and sometimes even wear them in winter (noone seems to realise that light can reflect off snow...).
there are also times, usually when i'm getting overloaded by other sources, that i wear them indoors as well...
