Another word for ''pavement'' is ''sidewalk''. I get pavement rage a lot. Well, I never knew this was a term for it until I saw it somewhere else on the internet when I was looking for something else. :)

I find I get this the most on Saturdays (I really don't know why), and so now I avoid going out on Saturdays because it was getting a bit out of hand. I just found myself inwardly getting horribly aggressive with people, and couldn't help myself expressing it by glaring and huffing and puffing and giving off other angry body language that made it obvious how angry I felt, which wasn't exactly doing me any good. I even muttered, ''f**k sake!! !'' under my breath, and it made me sound threatening, and I don't want to make other people nervy of me, so I've stopped going out on Saturdays all together.

I just find myself getting so irritable with people, and I know it's pavement rage. Anyone else here get this?

I haven't gone out shopping or to any busy area on Saturdays for so long I can't remember. For this very reason! I can't take the randomness.

Sometimes, if I have to travel through London, I manage to contain myself, and think of gracefulness, as I move through the mass of people. But in my home town.. oh dear.. I could never go out on a Saturday. It's over-stimulation!

I have sworn too, so I know what you mean. You/I don't want to appear aggressive. The mental/emotional acting I do when I have no choice works for me.. if you have to go out then you may find a coping mechanism of your own that works for you.

I had to look up what this was before I could answer, but now that I know: by golly yes I get this. I am a very fast walker and I find it painful to walk at slow paces, particularly with family members, particularly particularly when they're window shopping. Creating a "fast walker lane" on very busy streets would be a grand idea, I already read that in busy big cities like London you have to stand on the right side of escalators if you're not in a rush so that people can get by on the left, that's a great idea I wish we had in Dublin.

On a related note: when you're on an escalator do you walk or stand still and let the stairs do the work?

For our er American friends I'm talking about moving stairs, not lifts.

Middle aged mothers with prams are the worst offenders by the way.

Oh yeah. I get that kind of rage too. People on sidewalks, in malls, etc. annoy me, I get angry because they often just wander aimlessly getting in my way. I know where I'm going, I want to get in and out and all the zombies are irritating. People also have the dumb tendency to crowd in narrow areas, by the doors, etc. Annoys the crap out of me too. And yeah, I walk on escalators because I want to get what I want quickly and get out even quicker. I usually go to malls on Sunday mornings when it's quiet.

I hate it because where I live is old and Victorian so the pavements are pretty thin. Sometimes two mothers decide to block the entire pavement with their prams, knocking everyone into the road. Sometimes they walk along like that. I refuse to move and they have to go in single file

yes sometimes I do. going through the towns like an obstacle course usually I can see a way through the crowds and I've got quite good at it. I'm a fast walker too and I can't stand getting stuck behind people, I get to the point where I'm urging them to move along by moving my arms like a cop directing traffic. when I'm on my bike I do get to the point of shouting at both pedestrians and motorists but I've not got to that point whilst I've been walking. YET!

My pet peeve is when people block the aisles in stores & are completely oblivious to making it next to impossible to get by. It only seems to be getting worse where I live. I notice it happening in most stores now.

I don't particularly care if there's people around, but I do get a bit annoyed when relatively loud people are chatting 2 feet behind me for at least several minutes as I walk along.

Pretty much any time I am in a public place, I feel like this, too. It never ceases to amaze me that people will ram their carts right into you without even looking where they are going (and they just HAVE to know there are other people all around them), and then they do not even apologize! It makes me very upset in two different ways. First, it frustrates and depresses me, because I know I witness people apologizing to each other after such incidences. What is it about me that people feel it is acceptable to walk all over me? This is also something I have noticed in other places in life, people taking advantage of me endlessly, etc. I would surely feel bad if I failed to consider the physical security of people around me and caused such accidents. When I do, I make sure to express an apology. Second, I end up getting mad because all I can figure is they consider the tiny bit of energy required to not inconvenience other people is worth more than making me feel like crap.

I get angry when I'm choosing something off the shelf in a supermarket, and there's one of those basket things behind me in the middle of the aisle (you know, what sometimes they have in supermarkets?) and someone comes along with a trolley and it's too much trouble for them to look for the bigger gap and so they have to squeeze in the smaller gap right behind me, which is actually a hazard and an accident waiting to happen because if I happened to step back and bashed my leg on the side of the trolley or if the trolley ran over my foot or something, it would be considered an accident.

And they say NTs have common sense?

This used to happen to me a lot as a kid, as an adult not so much. One grocery store where we lived was near a retirement community. I always hated going in there when I was a girl, because the old geezers would ram their carts into me as I walked with my mom & her cart around the store. I wouldn't be doing anything either to warrant such an action: not running, no horse play, etc. I wasn't even allowed to push our shopping cart. The only thing I can think of is that the old folks didn't like children in "their" store. Most unpleasant place to visit when I was a kid. I always left there with sore legs & sides from having the carts pushed into me. Mom never reprimanded the old folks either.

I thought I was the only one who gets that way. I really just don't have much patience for other people. I see some of them as inefficient and their movements (or lack thereof) don't seem to have a purpose or end goal. It was bad in high school because I was always getting so frustrated with those idiots that would clog up the whole hallway and walk at a slow pace, or block important areas like the stairways and such. It got to the point where I put a laminated print out on my backpack that said "Hallway clotters beware".

I do the exact same thing. It's good reflex and agility practice.

Wow! I do that too! I usually see a path through the crowd and use my peripheral vision a lot to avoid bumping into people around me. I can sometimes move very fast this way through crowds like this.

Yes! I get so upset I often swear to myself too, or look very visibly angered at the situation. People walking right behind me infuriates me (I'll stop and pretend to be doing something so they have to pass), people walking right in front of me (not fast enough to have sufficient distance, not slow enough for me to be able to pass) annoys me, people holding hands or walking in groups blocking the sidewalk... like others, I treat it like an obstacle course.

Even just the awkwardness of not knowing where to look when I pass people sucks.
