Unless I've missed something, she wasn't killed, so no. I might try to intervene (I would certainly hope I would), but I wouldn't lay down my life for a few bruises.

The girl who sliced the guys arm? what immediate danger is she in, it doesn't specificy that just says she accidently sliced a dude in the arm in metalworking class.......so protect her from what and why would one have to die to do so? So confused.

Yeah op you need to provide more information on said girl...and as to why she is being abused...what led up to the abuse...ect ect ect.

where does it even say she's being abused? Is the person who wrote the thing the female to be saved?

I voted no, attacking others with a metalwork brush is not good and I would not protect her from the consequences of her actions (if any.)

I'm more than a bit confused by your post/question. I also find the response options in your poll very odd. You have posted an excerpt of what is clearly a much larger article, from who knows where, about who knows who, and for an unfathomable reason, and you are asking strangers whether they would die for someone (who?)! This is all weird. I can't vote on something like this.

I would try to help someone in trouble if it meant no danger to myself in any way. I would not die for anyone other than my children.

These were boys were harming an innocent girl in high school with a disability.

In my district, the teacher would be fired. The boys would be suspended and prosecuted. Other older men would probably teach the boys a lesson or two on how to treat a lady.

I am sorry for not being more clear.

Most folks love life too much to die happily for any reason, much less, dying in an unsuccessful attempt.

Protecting the helpless against brutality is a worthy endeavor. And it's true that those who move to protect others against bullies are bringing trouble upon themselves.

I just don't see anything happy about sacrifice. Sacrifice is serious business which is offered at great cost and it's done with something more like sorrow. I've made sacrifices to protect others when I thought I had a chance of success. Sacrifice takes willingness, not happiness.

Is this a letter from your daughter?

I would never die happily. Screw that. But if I am going to die, I am bloody well going to take the jerk out with me.
Considering I've taken a baseball bat to the shins to protect some ants, I doubt I could just sit by while someone is being bullied.

If you literally mean die, then no I would not. I have my own kids to be concerned with. While I would definitely stand up for this girl, I would not risk my life to do so. Are you suggesting you would leave your child fatherless to protect her? I have heard far worse in terms of kids being bullied, so this would not necessarily push me to the point of sacrificing my life. There have been abuse cases out there that involved a child's parents that I think I might lose reason over if I ever actually saw the perpetrator.

I do not think I really understand the whole purpose of the poll and the story.

Where is the option for "I would protect her, but not give my life doing so"? You are almost implying that if I would not give my life to protect her that I am either unpatriotic (although I do not know what this has to do with patriotism), or that I somehow see nothing wrong with it or even enjoy it.

At the very least, you should have an "other, please explain."
