There's some sort of weird sensitivity thing I have with the sound and feel of cotton balls when you mash them or tear them apart. It drives me crazy, like nails on a chalk board. I was wondering if anyone who shares this sensitivity had a potential fix for it to make cotton balls more tolerable.

I used to but now it's not as bad. I think it's because I can feel the individual fibers and they are not as smooth or as soft as I would like. When I was little I did not like them but now I don't mind them. And cotton balls hold energies so you can transfer energies through them and sometimes if you are sensitive you can feel that if someone else has been holding them and then hands them to you.

I'm sensitive to a certain texture of wood--light, dry; not quite rough, not quite smooth. It's what happens to wood if you put it through the dishwasher a few times. I don't know why it bothers me so much, but I've had to throw away wooden cooking implements and cutting boards often enough that I now know to buy metal or plastic only. It's horrible to touch and mildly uncomfortable to even think about!

Yes, I hate the "Screechy"/"Squeaky" sound of when cotton balls/wool is rubbed together.

By the way, the reason that people hate the sound of nails down a chalk-board ect. is because the sound is the same as the sound that a person hears if one of their teeth snaps/breaks.
It was on a science documentary I saw a while back.

You should never run wood through a dishwasher.

Wow, I didn't think cotton balls made sound when you pull them apart.

YES! I hate cotton balls. Exactly for the reasons you said. It's a tactile aversion. I use cotton pads as a substitute but I really don't have much use for cotton balls anyway.
Facial tissues can be a problem too.

Yeah, It's a kind of high pitched kind of tear sound like they are screaming or something. It's really hard to describe it's a weird kind of sound. Now that you know they make a sound I am curious if you can hear it. Take a cotton ball and pull it apart and see if you hear it. Let us know if you do. :D

I hate the way those little wax tissue things they use for toilet paper in some bathrooms feel. And who the heck thought to use that as toilet paper anyway? It's the most useless ineffective sorry excuse for toilet paper that anyone could have ever come up with. We had that in a couple of my schools. You were better off holding it until you got home especially if you had to poop. Whoever came up with the idea to use that stuff, I don't even know.

Wow. I thought I was alone on this one. I hate them. Textural issue. No problems with sounds as you describe. My preferred brands of over the counter medication are partially dictated by whether or not the company puts cotton balls under the safety seal of the bottle.

Coping mechanism? I pluck them out of the bottle with tweezers. It's still pretty bothersome even handling them by proxy though. :/

UUUGGGHHH, I HATE HATE HATE the cotton they put in those bottles. They used to be in children's vitamin bottles. OMG, picking those out feels terrible. I wish I had thought of using tweezers. Thanks for that advice, If I ever have that again I will use tweezers.

I hate when I go for a dental checkup and the dentist puts cotton or gauze on my tongue to hold it. I told him he can't do that with me anymore. Fortunately he is very nice and accommodating so I no longer have to suffer that.

Yeah, I can relate, I'm not a huge fan of cotton balls. I can tolerate them though because the sensory ickyness is subtle (to me), unlike Styrofoam which is the WORST!

I was originally going to post that I don't like cotton balls when wet. Then I read the OP's post also mentioning tearing, I don't tear them or handle them when wet.

I don't like the feel of fleece. Especially if my fingers touch it. I just don't like fleece.
