Identification to each other.

We have no way of identifying each other - if we needed one. I just thought, most Aspies would come out as INTJ on the Myers-Briggs test, So I looked this up and we share this with Ro Laren on Star Trek:Next Generation. She was a Bajoran who was unique in one particular way - she wore her Bajoran earring on the left ear, rather than the right ear which the majority of Bajoran's do. So maybe we could do the same, get something like a Bajoran earring from eBay and wear it on the left ear. Any thoughts?

Although 16,000 is a big number, we're all over the world, so it'd be odd to run into someone. Also, I don't wanna wear the same thing all day every day just on the off-chance I bump into someone off here. It sounds a bit scary, like the ana-band thing that when on a few years ago...

If anyone wants to recognise me I have a blue and black music festival wristband on my right arm from a few years ago I haven't taken off yet.

I'm thinking we just all wear 'A's on our foreheads, kinda like Rimmer (a hologram) wears an 'H' in Red Dwarf. A brand would do just as well.

Oh, how about a lapel pin? If someone makes up an AS lapel pin, I will get one.

In any case, I understand that many Aspies are afraid of being "outted", a fear I do not have. I just posted a picture of my old avatar in my office window, right under the "Wrong Planet" marquee; it's my own workplace bat signal for any fellow Aspies.

I'll grant you that it's an interesting idea, but I doubt it will do anything.
First, not all of us will learn about the idea.
Second, those who do learn about the idea may not follow through with the idea for reasons such as apathy or tactile hypersensitivity.
Third, those who do follow though will likely be so scattered apart that their paths would probably never cross and so there would be no need for anyone to recognize anyone.

How about, whenever we see someone who we suspect is on the spectrum, we have a screaming meltdown? If they recognise this secret signal, they can have one too.

I just like the idea of this, I think.
Awhile ago the Chicago Public Library advertised a program- "One Book, One Chicago" wherein people were encouraged to read the same book at the same time (as I recall, it was To Kill a Mockingbird). Unity...separate...

I also think, that if aspies did have a certain way to indentify themselves, it MAY turn into some kind of "trend" [just like the ana-band thing] and even people without AS would wear the certain identification thing.
I'm just not into the whole "wear something to identify your illness" thing. It would be like people wearing something to identify themselves as having Bi-Polar, or having Narcolepsy...just plain weird. Sorry...but I would not ever wear something to publically identify myself as an aspie.

I wouldn't mind wearing something that would identify me as autistic in a closed community like this. I mean, it's not like anybody I know would know about it if an idea like this would come from autistic communities.
Actually, the main reason why I wouldn't mind is because I think there was a connection between orange bracelets and this idea before and I love orange and would love wearing an orange bracelet.


Anyway, there really should be one day in the year on which everybody who wants to be/can be open about being on the spectrum wears something small, a piece of jewellery maybe. It would be amazing to think that thousands and thousands of autistic people would wear the same thing on one day, because it really would create a sense of community, belonging and it would ask for respect and recognition of the fact that autistic people are 'present' in the world.

Which one? Scarlet letter? A book on the holocaust? Red Dwarf?

Well, I WAS thinking about wearing an ASP of some sort. I DON'T wear earings though!! !! ! Maybe a pin. HECK, I might even wear a tie!
