Holidays
Who here likes holidays?
Who here hates holidays?
I hate them, except for skiing or hiking holidays.
I hate hot weather.
I have no interest in art and history.
I find sightseeing too easy going for me.
I hate guided tours.
I hate eating lots of food.
And many other things.
What do you think about holidays?
Holidays also completely destroy my routine and I end up feeling ill and not being able to sleep.

f**k Thanksgiving.
Both for all the needless chitter-chatter, praying, forced interaction, etc... (preferred to go with my grandmother or to her house and stay there and talk to them, etc anyway saw no point, no gaming, nothing to do except talk, etc...I remember that when younger...oh and the hours of helping other people with cooking, etc or something......
And the historical significance of what the caucasians did to the natives, genociding, raping them and "christianizing" them.
Also as an add-on to the above it's funny to see a black family doing thanksgiving, humming and singing and praying given there's a decent amount of native dna they carry; and they're thanking that a supernatural being allowed the white people to reach the 'new world' from which they did to my (and my family) ancestors (african and native american); raped, enslaved, killed off, deprived of their ethnicity, culture and beliefs...and their NAMES
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOL
EDIT: same for Columbus Day again regarding the s**t HE did and began to perpetuate.
Christmas is cool given I normally don't have to go to other places, and I like the trees decorated with lights, ornaments, etc...it's cute. That and burning firewood in my fireplace, marshmallows, baking cookies, milk, watching holiday specials on Cartoon Network (some of them were nice) playing with new stuff/games/programs/LEGOS/etc...
...ignoring some of the other family s**t (yes, why are you supposed to wait until others come until you open it-that and having to watch 'Its a wonderful life' I don't care about that old piece of hit movie..

By "holidays", do you mean "vacations" or "events like Christmas and New Years'"?
I love both.
I am fascinated by hotels and airports.
I love little soaps and car or train travel.
And events with Tradition are cool. It's a structure, and I like structure. Especially when it's "special", or semi-ritualistic. Especially when there's a special meal or ceremony involved.
Egghunts are great.
Present opening is great.
Dressing up in costumes: great.
Singing special songs? Great.
I quote Joey from Friends: Jam? Gooood. Beef? Goooood. What's not to like?

I dislike holidays.
They disrupt my presets, my default settings (routines that are functional-except when the rules are altered during holidays). Such as: Knowing what will be on tv on a given night, knowing when the trash pickup will happen, knowing I'll get mail on that weekday, etc.
They seem designed to exclude & torment those people who are orphans (no family), single (no partner, if he/she wants one), or otherwise not fitting in with "mainstream" culture/society. Of course, there are exceptions-that's not an absolute statement, just saying it's a tendency, to some degree.
Re: differing definitions of "holiday(s)"-
I can't work, so there is no divide between "work" and "vacation"-but I dislike vacation if it means having to travel (and pretend to enjoy doing things one isn't really "into")-which also disrupts my routines & deprives me of my comfortable, reliable home environment.
I like just doing my usual things-reading, writing, drawing-which is lifestyle some folks might consider holiday or vacation, in relative terms. I might consider the life of someone wealthy (who inherited enough money to last across lifespan) as living, being on, a holiday or vacation-"a picnic"-in comparison with mine (low income, frustrated artist, wishing I were "rich eccentric" instead of "poor weird").
So it's all in what one compares it to, what counts as "holiday". Like, what counts as "dessert" (or "snack") versus a "main course" (or "real food")? One could, theoretically, eat cake for every meal every day, and have a little soup & bite of sandwich for dessert. If one does nothing most of the time, spending a little while doing something (or a whole lot) would, in a way, be a vacation-merely doing something different, out of one's ordinary/usual pattern.
May sound sappy, but I'm serious: I consider each new day, as it happens, to potentially be a good (or bad !) day. That matters to me in a way that the arbitrary, externally-imposed "official" holidays do not (am I supposed to only have fun on those occasions ? those are my least fun occasions !). And lastly, if one cares about any other people, why wait until only a single or few days to tell them/express that ?

I TOTALLY AGREE!!
And I don't know a soul who gets it. I so agree.
I want the mail to come, the tv to be 'right' and my shows to be on. I don't like weekends for that reason, and I absolutely dislike holidays - all of them. They are just something to force myself through and count down until things resume back to normal.

Thanks for the full quote (of my post)-I was worried I'd gone too far afield in my analysis for others to relate.
Yes, I feel much the same about weekends-there are a few things (late-night tv shows) I can rely on happening on those days, but mostly they're another barren wasteland of even less ways to occupy myself (and my handful of friends are too busy to hang out with me). Also, the expectation (culturally) is that one's supposed to have recreational socializing on weekends (aka Fri & Sat nights)-which I lack-so that makes those days even worse.

I hate Christmas. Having my routine distupted, the tacky decorations, having to take the decorations down, comercialism, people ringing bells in my face, not being able to find a good radio station because they are all playing Christmas music, "Frosty" esque snowmen everywhere, trying to figure out why people get such a thrill out of looking at lightbulbs, having people over unannouned, getting sucky gifts, basicaly everything about it. Bah humbug.
I hate most holidays.
No routine; I end up doing things because I am bored not because I have a routine in doing them.
No learning; I am currently waiting and waiting for university to start so I can do something that has a point to it.
I hate travelling. I hate sightseeing. I hate not being able to read a book for a couple of hours, go on the internet or go for a run or a walk.
I hate hot weather; sweating constantly and having to drink loads of water. Cold weather is better because you can make yourself warm with more clothes; in hot weather there is no escape and you just have to suffer.
The only holiday I ever like is skiing in February because it is active (I like being active) and I really enjoy skiing as a sport. Also, it is not hot at all; in fact its often -15 Celsius which I actually quite like when I ski for 6-7 hours a day. If it were any "hotter", I would be sweating because of the physical exertion and I hate sweating. I have been skiing for 10 years so I'm pretty good too, which makes it more exciting.
WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS....
Lying on a beach and sleeping/sunbathing every day. Tell me, what is so enjoyable about lying down all the time?
I was forced to go to a beach for a few days and I was the only one in the area I was in that was reading a book while lying in the sun; everyone else were just vegetating (sleeping) in the sun. I don't understand how that can be enjoyable, I really don't. It sounds boring to me, just lying down for hours on end.
And I also hate bikini swimming costumes which my Mother forces me into. I hate being semi-naked even though I apparently have a good body.

The only way I'd enjoy a vacation is if we went to the Smithsonian or another big museum of the sort. I'd like that; the routine-disruption would be worth it for all the fascinating things to see.
When I get a week off, I spend it at home. That is the way I relax.
