If you try and make laws messing with someones junk there likely to go and shoot something even more likely to go shoot a lot of somethings.

so just don't make laws concerning peoples sex organs its impractical offensive and would probably start a war.(or at least a new terrorist organization and we don't need or want another one of those.)

I also like trackers idea but i think the parents should consent and there should be no risk of permanent damage.

I'm rather fond of my children thanks.

I disagree with forced sterilization, even temporarily. It is not the parents body parts to be messing with, period. Its a slippery slope to say people with certain conditions, medical issues, etc shouldn't be parents. I know plenty of parents that I don't think deserve to be parents, but who is going to be the one to decide that? Its a recipe for disaster and I really don't think its much better than the genocide of autistics that most of us claim to be so against.

what about severely autistic young adults who want to be sexually active with other severely autistics?

i am starting out with ''severe autistics" for this discussion...step at a time

Pardon my ignorance with regards to the severely autistic... but is this often a problem?

just a starting point and working my way up, lol...................i like to start at the basics and i thought this would be a good one

what if 2 severe autistics were sexually active??

you know what, i am going to stop now.....maybe this should be in adults forum, imho.....but i love the topic for disdcussion...thanks

Ok, so for the sake of this discussion, we're talking about severe autistics, which means it definitely falls into the category of DISability. Here's a question: would someone, given the knowledge and understanding that they have a disability that is largely genetic, choose to reproduce? Having gone through all the troubles they've had, all the pain and suffering and misery, choose to pass that on to someone else?
I'm not severe to the extent of the people we're referring to in this thread.. but I certainly wouldn't wish my life on someone else. Of course, when I was 16 I told my doctor that I wanted my uterus removed.. She wasn't fond of the idea.. So perhaps I'm not a good judge of the human desire/need to pass on one's genes..

It comes down to a medical ethics/genetic counseling type issue, I guess.

There has to be some kind of informed consent for birth control/sterilization.. but what if someone is unable to make informed consent on the topic of reproducing at all? What if they can't really comprehend all the implications of pregnancy and parenthood to begin with? We're discussing severe cases that include very considerable retardation, right? And have established that the condition is largely genetic..

I know that you stipulated severe autism and mental retardation, but I just wanted to point out that the two do not necessarily go hand-in-hand. From what I understand, you can be severely autistic yet also high functioning.
