That depends, Prof. Some long posts hook me from beginning to end. Some short posts are awfully shallow and boring. Not to mention, my long posts are pure literature gold, make Tolstoy green with envy. :)

Sometimes it's not a question of being misunderstood. It seems to be quite common that a respondent will pick up part of what you're saying but miss the theme, and then they'll take it in a different direction completely as it relates to their life, whether or not you asked them.

I've seen this happen quite a bit. A classic example would be a "cure" thread entitled: "What would a cure do?" You will inevitably get someone posting a response like, "I don't want a cure; I like who I am. Don't force me to change!"

While some really are overly long-winded and verbose, in some every single word is interesting. Yours fall in the latter category. :D

So far, I'm actually finding it easier than other fora I've used. I usually phrase what I write very carefully, to adhere to my meaning with as little ambiguity as I can. Elsewhere, the effort is pretty much wasted, because people read what they assume I probably wrote, or ignore all the words they don't know, or whatever, so that they respond, usually with wild hostility, to things I never wrote anyway. Here, people seem to read what I actually write.

Awww Henriksson, so nice to hear a nice word! :-)

But I used to be too verbose in online forums, till I realized people lost the thread of my thought, so I taught myself how to be concise. I only write long posts when I want to make sure people get the point because the point is confusing.

Yes, I have issues with both receptive and expressive communication. I often struggle to be clear about what others are intending to communicate (and I expect I get it wrong at least some of the time), and to express my own thoughts/ideas etc, in a comprehensive and comprehensible manner. In fact sometimes I struggle with understanding my own posts…teehee.
