I voted llama because although I don't believe that I have a disorder (or a syndrome), I recognize that others here believe just as fervently that they do and that doesn't offend me in the least. Also, AS folks getting benefits might worry that removing disorder from the description might compromise their benefits, which I wouldn't agree with either.

Heck the only reason I'm annoyed is because I am lazy. On a qwerty keyboard, the letters ASD are together but the C is way too far away! WRITERS CRAMP AGONY!! !

I'm glad some people appreciate llamas. They are poor misunderstood, random creatures!

I don't particularly like the whole "Disorder" way of phrasing it... I mean I would have just as much of a valid point to call a Neurotypical disordered.

The word condition is enough.

I will say being intersex there is a big politics of language issue with the term disorder. Alot of folks from that community do not like the coined term "disorders of sexual development", largely because of the term disorder. It implies that there is something wrong with a person because of what they are/have. Maybe it is something that is hard to grasp, but I have been pretty involved in politics of language issues. Being intersex is not being disordered, it is just being different.

For example, many transsexuals take issue with the Gender Identity Disorder term and the classification as a mental illness. They are not mentally ill, in fact often rather sane and the disorder term is especially offensive to some individuals who have transitioned. Being transsexual to them is a correctable medical condition. Or sometimes it is an identity. But its not really a disorder.

So yes...I can see why there may be a problem. I will say there was a push in the medical community to classify many things as "disorders" but the politics of language issue has resulted in an appropriate backlash. So you may have just encountered it with her.

It's not like homosexuality, which is supposedly 'ok,' it's a physical and statistical anomaly.

Though I would like to see, I am curious.
