I really have no interest in knowing the cause or the difference.
If they are laughing with me then fine.
If they are laughing at me then fine.
If they are laughing inspite of me then that's fine as well.
Perhaps I am too self-absorbed to care.

I used to be unable to tell, but I've learned to rely on other senses/abilites to figure out what is really going on. I use my perfect pitch to discern their tone of voice and whether they are antagonistic or friendly.

I'm certain that I get laughed at a lot, but usually it's not in a ridiculing sort of way. Usually it's in a, "Oh, fiddlerpianist is just being fiddlerpianist again with his weird hobbies!" It's seldom judgmental.
