I have social anxiety. Whenever I'm preparing for a social situation I like to tell myself all the reasons why my anxieties are irrational and shouldn't be a problem. For example in crowded places I remind myself that nobody is looking at me or judging me.

Actually, I think that is kind of the key to anxiety. You have to rationalise it and think 'what's the worst thing that could possibly happen?' and when you really think about it, the worst thing that could possibly happen isn't even that bad.

I think social anxiety becomes ingrained in AS adults because of all those millions of times of either dropping conversation killers, saying completely inappropriate things without realising it, not knowing what to say, not knowing how to say the truth, not knowing when to make / break eye-contact.

It's just such a minefield. Sometimes it goes well and I wonder what all the anxiety is about and other times it all goes so badly that it reinforces the reason why I have the anxiety in the first place!

I find it easier to apply positive thinking whilst using beta blockers because they hold back the panik almost enough for me to remain rational.

Sam :)

I have social anxiety. Just anticipating any social event makes me quite nervous.

I get anxious when it gets to heavy crowds, I would also feel shut and scared to say a word... especially on public buses, I wish I didn't though, it would just make my whole life so much easier.

I am diagnosed with Anxiety Disorder. I don't take meds right now, but I probably will be on an anti anxiety PRN.

I'm pretty sure I have social anxiety. Sometimes, when I am in a social situation, particularly if it is in a small space, I feel panicked and I need to step outside and get some air. Once I've been outside and calmed down, I usually feel better.
