Now, that's embarrassing because, for me, when I use the emoticon , which is quite often, it means that I'm wondering something or about something.
... In real life, that's how my eyes go when I'm thinking of/about something in a kind of dreamy/remembering way: to the roof, if I may so. And it has nothing to do with sarcasm

And also, I wanted to add that I'm glad my English is good enough to understand people's statements and posts here but not good enough to understand everything. It's easyer, in some kind of way.




And also again, I have a question for those who like that kind of humor: why is being sarcastic so important to you?

Now let's have a normal discussion about the subject.

I prefer forums with a higher percentage of autistic people like me. Not only because I can relate to them more, but because I can be more open about my special interests, whereupon on an NT forum, I'd get laughed out (this has happened to me in the past) I go on a lot of NT forums, mainly dedicated to my special interests, and WP is the only place with general discussion about many things I go on.

I agree with some of that, though my "interests" are liked by a large number of NT's as well, so I am ok there. This post was just my view, I was not telling others how to act/think.

That was the first thing to make me laugh out loud today.

From reading a couple more of the posts on this thread, I can see that you also find this forum helpful. I am someone who understands sarcasm and humour quite well, a lot better than I did as a child at any rate. As a child, I barely understood it at all. I have also found that there are those on here who don't quite get it as adults, but I have noticed that some users of WP do help them out, as has been stated by other posters, by the use of emoticons or by stating beforehand and/or afterwards what the statement made is.

People with AS find it harder to adapt to change or anything new don't you know



For sarcasm, I have seen people on here using "/sarcasm" before and sometimes after a statement they intend to be sarcastic (as has already been stated by another poster), or I have seen this emoticon used . I sometimes get confused when this emoticon is used as I sometimes think the poster is just fed up rather than being sarcastic.



Funny that, I get quite the opposite on forums predominantly used by non-autistics (sorry, I don't like using 'NT' to describe non-autistics). I will say something and people take what I have said the wrong way completely, assumptions will be made about what I have said and, of course, they are ALWAYS right even though that's not what I have said at all. This doesn't happen all the time, but it has happened. Sometimes though I get told I am intelligent on non-autistic forums or how my comments are food for thought, which is nice.

I have also come across this, moreso on forums than in real life. Unfortunately, my problem is in real life is that those that are intelligent seem to think I am inferior to them in some way and those that are less intelligent don't understand me. The ones that generally tend to be non-judgemental towards me tend to have other mental health issues in my reality, I can't really speak for anyone else though.



Good, I like honesty in a person, there is not enough of it in today's society. If I don't like what you have to say, I will tell you and will do so in a manner that you know I am disagreeing with you, but I won't be bitchy or anything like that, just as I'd expect you to do for me if you didn't agree with me.



I completely agree. I find that I can relate to people here and discuss stuff with people here a lot more than on other sites, hence I use this one most often.

I love sarcasm. It is for me either just a form of humor, like a pun. ( I love pun's too, they just crack me up) and sometimes it is used to vent frustration at a comment that I find illogical, and sometimes I'm just being silly and use it in a lighhearted way. i also like dry humor a lot! I have a weird sense of humor anyway.

I agree with this statement. It's true for me. I only belong to two other forums that are not related to autsim. I have easily and immediately made friends there, and seem to be liked and respected. Posting on those forums is enjoyable and stress free. I think it's due to the nature of the forums, not the membership. One is a music forum, whose members are fans of a particular musician. That is our common bond; our love and respect for the musician and our life experiences related to that musician and his music. The other is a cultural site whose members are all a part of that culture and have roots in the same geographical area. Nothing really heavy gets discussed on either of these sites, it's relaxing, enjoyable and informative,

I love Wrong Planet. There are many, many good and honest people here. It has done much to help me grow as an individual on the spectrum, but I do tend to worry about how my posts will be received and interpreted. That gets tiresome. I have no real sense of belonging here, or of having any real value here as a member and that might be purely a result of numbers. 32,190 members is astounding and factions are understandably going to be formed as they would be in any community of that size.

Autism is a hot topic. There's bound to be a lot of differences of opinion and a lot of emotionally packed thoughts and words that will unintentionally (and sometimes intentionally) ignite a fuse. A few exceptional people have been kind and receptive to me, but mostly it feels like I am up against a strong tide and will be knocked over if I don't stay strong and alert and watch my ps & qs. I feel as though I have to keep my guard up and it gets to be exhausting. There is definitely an undertow going on here, a sub-culture, an underground, if you will, and, call me paranoid, but I get the strong suspicion that they communicate by pms and are part of a goon squad. There, I've said it. I've wanted to say it for a long time. It's how I feel and what I believe. Yes, I could be wrong, I would like to be wrong, I hope I'm wrong.
