O.o......three strikes against Jesus (aka... Ronald Reagan ) and you're on the way to Satan's institution.

-a bolshevik traitor who dared to speak out against nazi-like barbarism
-a gay person
-a person who failed to be fruitful and multiply

Having twigged to who the residents of the other joint will be, I 'spect I shall enjoy the company far, far better in the lands of Beelzebub.

See you in Hades!

When I was 10, people with some form of authority told my mother that I would be in an institution by the time I was 16, probably earlier...

I'm 20 now, attending university and counselor/leader in a scout group. Guess they were wrong.

I can remember my school counselor telling me the teachers and staff at my old school thought I be in a hospital when I grow up because I couldn't figure out right from wrong in social behavior and rules. So they probably thought it wind me up in a hospital because I wouldn't be responsible for my actions so the judge put me away than in prison. But I am doing good now as an adult.

Mum said that if we were living in the olden days I would have ended up in one because they had no meds and didn't understand.

You were asking for it. Really. threatening to shoot the kids is bound to get people concerned.

Well, you probably did need help by then. If you were desperate enough to make death threats, something sure needed to be done. But the shrinks often forget that mental illness, including the anxiety/depression combo that comes from long-term harassment, has a very large environmental component, and you'll never fix the problem if you don't fix the environment, which in this case included a bunch of people who were being absolute jerks.

My mom has suggested institutions, and so have more than a few doctors. (Yeah, same mom who doesn't believe I'm autistic. She tried to send me and my sister to a "school for troubled teens", only being deterred by the fact that vaccinations were required... Then later, when I talked to her about my problems with living on my own, she suggested an assisted-living place near where she lived, which apparently had shiny brochures that came along with it...)

It kind of scares me, because I am and always have been perfectly capable of learning all the stuff a person needs for basic self-sufficiency; and if they can say that to me, then what hope is there for someone who even needs help for an hour a week, let alone every day? Is anybody going to teach them? Will anybody even realize that they can be fine on their own?

There are so many people who should be fine on their own, if people didn't underestimate them so much.

I think threatening to shoot people is over the top. I wouldn't joke about having a bomb in my bag at the airport or even talk about bringing one there or threaten to bring one. They take those things seriously. Same as when you say you want to kill someone or bring a gun to school and it doesn't matter if you are just venting. People just get scared and don't want to take the chances so action will be taken.
