Actually, its much easier when its your own.

But I am quickly coming to understand why there are so many in these threads complaining about how they can't get dates and nobody wants to be in a relationship with them.

Anyone who can spew this kind of bile and hatred toward innocent little babies, simply because the idea of diverting even a part of their attention from their own interests is unacceptable, is not capable of entering into a mature relationship with another person.

If you're so cold hearted and self absorbed that you have no compassion to give for someone completely innocent and helpless, how can you ever hope to attract, or sustain a relationship with, someone old enough to actually have personal baggage and flaws?

I would highly disagree. One one hand, being able to give your time and energy to another person while in a relationship is important, but at the same time people who dislike small children aren't necessarily incapable of a mature relationship. I have no interest in children, and honestly do not like them for a number of reasons, but I would not compare a dislike of children with a complete lack of compassion when it comes to something 'innocent and helpless'.

Being able to care for a child and care for a mate is a different thing. I would not place them in the same category, as the type of energy and time is of a different fashion. While there are comparisons, some people just do not like children and do not want to have them. I, for one, have trouble with loud noises so babies crying tend to cause me extreme distress. This is not me being a cruel human being, but me having general sensory issues.

Similarly, I cannot speak to a child rationally (which is the only way I know how to communicate) and that is highly frustrating. THere are many more issues that make me have a general dislike towards being around babies/small children, but once more: I wouldn't say that makes me a 'cold hearted' individual who couldn't maintain a relationship (if I had any interest in one).

And saying that you have no interest in having children or don't think that you would be a good parent because you may not be capible of being that self-sacrificing is not an immediate cue that a person can't give for another individual on other levels.

I don't mind small animals, though I prefer full grown ones. I never understood how small equivocated to cute?

Hope this doesn't sound too odd, but that's the kind of thing my bf would say. :)

Also: Google the term "paedomorphosis."

Most of what I found referred to amphibians, but if anyone can track down something useful pertaining to humans, please let me know. I remember reading about this in a Psychology textbook once. Supposedly, beings that appear to be more "child-like" (humans or otherwise) encourage a greater desire to care for them.

I may be remembering this incorrectly--in that case, sorry, please ignore this.

Is this trait part of Apiesm?

They are cute, but they are also innocent and helpless and depend on you. Maybe you like women who are cute because you perceive them to be innocent and innoculous, just like babies. In your mind, they can never bring you harm.

:salut:
Although, if any aspies have poor physical control, they may be better off avoiding children & especially babies b/c they are easy to break/damage even if you don't intend to harm them. (So far I've never hurt a baby or small child & plan to keep it that way) In that case avoiding children would actually be responsible. Their is definitely a major difference between hating kids and disliking them due to not understanding them.

I have always loved babies. I liked watching them and looking at them. Then when they got to a year old, I wasn't interested in them anymore. I noticed in the home videos how I loved my brother when I was three but when he got to one years old, I got mean to him. He was touching my stuff and wrecking my fort I made with my blocks because my parents would let him go near it and knock it down. So no wonder I was mean to him

I would never let my own child wreck other peoples stuff or even get near it. Seriously, why do people let their babies and young kids wreck other peoples stuff? Why do other people let them do it too? They wouldn't let them poke thier fingers in the sockets or touch things that are important to them such as their taxes or their movie camera or their camera or touch anything they could choke on or put in their mouths such as crayons or markers but yet they would let them get near someone's sandcastle and wreck it or get near someone's fort they made with blocks and knock it down. Why the irony? My parents didn't let me touch their books, I could only touch my own but yet they let my little brother get near my fort and knock it down. This is something I hate about parents and everyone else who allows the little ones to do it.

I don't like babies. It's mostly the way adults act around them, but I also don't like how they cry and touch everything. Baby animals are adorable though, but human babies aren't very cute to me. I really like people who are cute or act cute. I try to never be mean or hurt babies because that just wouldn't be nice.

Well if that isn't the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what is. People are different, with very different ways of feeling and interpreting their world, and there is nothing wrong with disliking the company/responsibility/characteristics of children. If you don't like kids, or have "compassion" for them, don't have any, and who's the worse for it?

I can't stand kids, although I am never (and would never be) mean to them or abuse them. But when I was married, my (then) husband's pregnant sister came to stay with us, and lived with us through the first year of her son's life. Why she lived with us is a long story, but I adored her, and was fine with having her in the house. I just could not tolerate the intrusion of that child, and it stressed me out so much that just before I reached the point where I was going to tell her she-was-welcome-but-her-child-had-to-go, she moved. I'm divorced now (after 11 years of marriage), but she and I still keep in touch. Every year I send her son a birthday present, and I'm happy to hear news of him! But I can't stand being around kids, and that doesn't mean I have no compassion for them, or that I'm cold-hearted and self-absorbed; it means that I don't enjoy being around kids and have never wanted one of my own.

And by the way, I love cats, and feel very much as if my cats are my kids. I love being responsible for them and providing them with a good home and plenty of attention. The fact that I put cats before kids in my life just means I'm a little different, that's all.

I don't like babies much. I do, however, love animals.

I love baby animals. I hate babies and small children.

The last time I was around some, I left feeling so cranked up and aggressive...O_O

Ages and stages topic

Babies and children I enjoy. I find the teen years difficult. :? Rational adults (rare) are welcome. 8)

When I see babies, I think they're basically human-shaped animals. I can only really get on with them once they've hit around age 6, the age where they can hold a proper conversation and understand new concepts if they're explained.

It's probably because babies can only elicit empathetic responses from people, being unable to put forth ideas logically.

I have nothing personal against the larval form of humans..
I sure as hell don't want one right now, but I can sort of see the appeal..kind of..if I squint really hard.
The screaming isn't as scary or annoying to me as dogs barking.
I can't possibly hate something so helpless and innocent.
I don't want to hold or touch any of them, but perhaps the mild revulsion will pass should I ever mature and/or experience parenthood.

I love babies but I have an extreme dislike for toddlers who are spoiled.
