Annie turned out to be therapeutic for my son. We had a cat,Wilma, and she scratched my son when she got spooked at seeing another cat out the window. After that he was terrified of her (she was a good cat-she was just momentarily freaked) and wouldn't be in the same room with her. I was forced to find her another home. The fear lingered and I was afraid the fear would turn into anger at animals. Several years later we got Annie from a friend of the family whose lives were too busy to give her any kind of companionship. She had already been de-clawed when they got her from the pound and that was a real selling point for my son. Anyway, he adores her and found his gentle side again. So she was sort of a gateway from fear to affection with animals.
That's great! No matter what my cats do to my children, they will not leave them alone.

Still looking for that blue jean baby queen, prettiest girl I've ever seen.
I got her around my 9th birthday, and she lived for 12 years. When she was gone, that was the toughest loss I've ever suffered. Today, I feel like a dog would help me cope so much with my loneliness, but to me, getting another dog seems on par with remarrying after your spouse has died. I'd feel guilty, like I was replacing someone who couldn't be replaced. I know I'll get another dog someday, but 5 years after her death, the right time still hasn't come. I also feel like, with me living alone, it would hardly be right to raise a puppy while I'm gone to work all day.
All the time, I hear my boss (who I suspect is AS, actually) say, "Dogs are in every way almost always superior to humans."
Sorry to hear about your dog
Sadly I kinda agree with your boss's quote, and I like this quote too:
"The more I know about men (humans) the more I like dogs" Charles De Gaulle
Tim: That is funny you say your dog's feet smell like popcorn. IMy dog's' feet smell like Fritos (and I have ruined a date or two by telling them this fact during dinner haha)
I'm allergic to cats but you all have some cute ones!
It's THE SHNACK!
As much as I love The Shnack (real name: Snickerdoodle), I loved her mother, Cookie, much more. The Shnack is much more my mother's pet, but I spend enough time with her nowadays that The Shnack considers me a part of the household as well.
There are a number of other animals I'll like to get: An African Grey Parrot (absurdly expensive, though, and not good to have around cats), a Peregrine Falcon, and many others.
Edit: By the way, in case you couldn't tell: The Shnack is a cat. She seems to have many Weegie traits in her.

Thanks guys....

I promise you it's not an unpleasant smell. Sure beats sniffing butts like dogs. I actually was so fascinated by the phenomenon I called "Frito Feet" that I did a little research and the theory is that if your pets eat mostly corn-based pet food that can cause them to smell like corn chips or popcorn.
I had a cat and two dogs when I lived on my own. I got my first cat when I was 10 but when I was nine, our neighbors gave us their cat for us to take care of because they couldn't have it in their apartment. But the cat took off. Then when I was 10, my parents got me a cat and I named it Michelle. She lived for 13 years and died two years ago right after her 13th birthday. Good age huh?
Then when I was 11, we got another cat. It was given to my mother to give to her brother but he decided he didn't want a cat so we ended up keeping it and my brother named it Peppersalt. Four years later my dad got rid of her because he got sick of her climbing on the screens.
When I was 12, Peppersalt had three kittens and we all decided to keep them because dad said we needed all of them for Montana to keep the mice out of our house. But Tiger and Jasmine took off when I was 13 and 14. Tiger turned into a wild cat. When I was 13, Pal and Jasmine had five kittens. Pal and Jasmine were brother and sister. We kept them all and my parents had them all fixed so there be no more kittens. My parents got sick of feeding them all so they stopped feeding them and they went wild. They only fed Michelle and peppersalt.
Three of the kittens took off and Pal adopted the neighbors from across the road from my parents. They feed him and he is a housecat again. My dad saw him there and didn't care that the neighbors took him in and my dad was like "it used to be our cat but you can keep him."
We got a dog when I was 14 and it was supposed to be my dog but I didn't even pick her so I didn't consider her mine. Besides she was disobediant and ran away from us and wouldn't come to us when we call her and she peed in the house. The problem was she was an abused animal so she had PTSD and I thought "no wonder she got abused, she doesn't listen" but my dad told me "no she does this because she was abused" and he figured when the owners call her, they hit her with rags so she always ran from us when we had rags in her ahnd because she thought we were going to hit her. My mom also figured when the owners raise their voices, they start beating her because everytime we raised our voice, she pee and shake. I didn't see why would the people abuse her if she didn't do any of this stuff before. But then the abusive owners turned out to be an old woman who had her and she was senile so she didn't take care of her nor herself. She even forget to feed the dog so she dig in the trash for food and the lady would catch her and beat her with a newspaper. I figured she did more than that based on how our dog acted. I couldn't understand if she couldn't remember to feed her dog, then how did she even remember to beat her? But after a few months of having her, Pepper, our dog, calmed down and she didn't run from us or shake or pee in the house and she loved everyone. When we first got her, she only loved kids but hated grown ups because she was afraid of them. But then she only loved certain grown ups because they were nice to her and patient and then after a while she liked all grown ups. It took lot of patience to earn her trust and she got over her PTSD.
We also had another dog when I was 16 but he didn't last long. He loved running after cars and one day he slid on some ice and fell against my mother's car as she was driving and he died right there. He was only eight months. Then a month later we got another dog for my brother's birthday and named her Yawny and we had her for many years and she had two litters of puppies and we sold them but kept one of them. But he was male so he loved taking off and in 2007 we let a family keep him but he took off two weeks later. In 2009 or 2008 my parents gave Yawny to the retirment home where my grandma lives and she adopted one of the women there and boy did she get fat. The woman spoils her and feeds her a lot and she gained all that weight. She even has three beds.
In 2002 my dad was going to the dump and he found a dog in the middle of the road and she was skin and bones and he picked her up and took her home with him. But he took her to the vet first and the vet guessed for her to be two or three months and he said she was good but all she needs is food and she will be healthy again. So he took her back home and he fed her and was going to give her away but we got attached to her and kept her. They still have her.
In 2004 my dad got a jack Russell and my mom named her Maggie. When I moved out, I tried to have that dog my dad found in the middle of the road but she kept running back down to my parents house so I had Maggie instead and then I moved so I had to leave her with my parents. They finally got rid of her in 2009 or 2008 to some guy.
In 2005 when I first moved out, I got a dog that was mixed with black lab and German shepherd. I only had her for a year and a half and had to leave her with my parents but because they already had five dogs then, I didn't think it was fair to them to be taking care of my dog so I told them they could get rid of her. So they did.
They got rid of all these dogs they had and gained an extra dog because my brother always wanted a dog that was a certain breed so he used his money he had earned and bought him for $2,000 dollars and he tried to sneak him in his apartment but he was caught so he gave him to my parents for them to take care of and then my brother found out recently he can't find any place in town that will take pets so my parents are stuck with him for another year. But they love him.
Now right now I have no pets and can't have any way because our landlord won't let us have any. But I grew up with pets from age ten or I should say nine.
I should add my parents had a dog before I was born but got rid of her when I wasn't even a year old yet because she shed and I was alergic to flees and it was too much work to take care of a dog and a baby and the fact their dog was too unhappy living in the city. The yard was too small and she didn't like being on a leash. She was used to living out where she could run around free and not be on a leash so they sold her to some guy who lived out in the country and she was very happy out there and had puppies. Her name was also Maggie.
My cousin works for a veterinarian. Someone left a puppy tied to a tree on the property and she took it home then. This was about a year ago, and I met her in October. This little puppy named Ellie is a German short-haired pointer/boxer mix. My cousin did have issues along the way, like taking her back and forth between her house and her then boyfriend's house and also living with 5 or 6 (how many?) cats.
Around Thanksgiving time, we wound up with her. When it is not muddy, she runs around in our backyard. I know she likes this because she never had something like this in the other places she lived. Ellie has improved the overall morale at our house. However, there are discipline issues like getting extremely excited when people come in the front door or when she sees them in our backyard. We frequently have to leave the room because she jumps up on us too much. There are some problems when we're out of the house for more than an hour or two, but I wouldn't want her to leave now.
I help with Ellie's care just like everyone else. I sometimes think that my mindset doesn't translate to adaptation in a dog and perhaps indirectly encouraging bad behavior. When my parents are talking to other people in the room and she is calmed down, I don't really have a place so I interact more with her than the humans.
I always say good night to her before I go to bed, and sometimes this could take less time. I have a habit of tapping her nose in two sets of three, saying "boh" each time. I honestly don't know why.
Now, that little puppy isn't so little anymore. She's kind of like an older kid playing with baby toys because she still does things like chase her tail and "investigate" her shadow; Ellie also hasn't really learned everything we'd like her to, like not chewing on her leash/harness and what I said before about other people coming over.
But I'm really glad she's here and hopefully we'll have her for a long time. She just turned 1. Everyday is better because of her.

My dog Gary, whom we saved(he was in a pet store from 2 months to 7 months because nobody wanted him, as he didn't look like a purebred Papillon) is my favorite pet and constant companion. He's like a cat and sits with me while I work or write on the computer and he follows me everwhere. He's really, really strange. I like to think of him as an aspie to because of his behavior. He hates being kissed in the face or on the head while he's being held but could care less if he's not being held. He even kicks you with his forepaws if you try to put your face near his while he's being held, it's quite funny. He also doesn't go outside unless he really has to pee or poop, or you hav a toy. I'll pick him up and bring him way out to the yard and he'll run back to the door and look at me, waiting for me to open it. If it's wet outside, forget even getting him to stay outside for any period of time. He whines and cries spontaneously, even if he's fine. I'll mock his wining at random and he'll wine back like we're talking. It's quite funny. He also tries to speak when he wants something like food or if I ask him if he wants to play. To top his strangeness off, he has really strange looking eyes that make it appear as if the part of his iris surrounding his pupils are frayed. They also appear to be popping out of the sockets.
Chell.

She likes sleeping on my stuff. She's so sweet. She follows me around a lot and when I'm angry or sad she'll meow at me until I calm down. I got her a long time ago at a pound. I also have a few more pets, but she's the one I care about most.

We're keeping one and finding homes for the rest(although, i'm still trying to convince the parents to let us keep the little black kitten also!).
BriannaBee, is your cat named after the character Chell from Portal?
