Totally agree.
Intense, 'reflective", meticulous almost obsessive analysis of things, and the constant creation/production of theories and resultant "rules" about life, to make up for not doing it reflexively.

Enlightened, awakened minds who see the world from different, often very different, perspectives.
... and often while quietly pondering our navels.

That doesn't even prove anything. Just because you know ONE Aspie that fits the theory at hand doesn't mean the theory is correct.
Incidentally, I think IQ is a lot of crap, and people who keep validating their self-worth by constantly citing some number they got on some test that some guy invented REALLY should stop doing that.
OO! OO! Methinks leejosepho just picked up on some of what I "subtly" did not include in the opening post.
Yeah. You got it man. I know you do!

Okay, in all fairness to everyone, I think I ought to tell you what was on my mind in my second post of this thread. Actually I was going to put it right in the first post, but I didn't because to be honest, I was afraid it might start a flame war. And that is far from my intention.
It was also never my intention to "put one over" on anyone either, so if it appears that way, you ALL have my apologies.
Somebody was PMing a while ago about this thought I was being sarcastic, and though that wasn't my intention, now that I've taken another look, I can see it might look that way. Again, it was not my intention.
So, theories:
The "theory" I expounded in my first post was not intended to be serious. The statement about seeing more theories here than anywhere else though, is serious. I have seen more here. What I wasn't willing to put forward last night, because of the mood I was in, is that the plethora of theories is beginning to drive me batty.
It's not that they are all bad theories, though some of them are just ridiculous (no, I'm NOT singling any of them out! Like I said, I have NO intention of starting a flame war, and I'd really appreciate it if no one else did either, because if this thread does take a turn for the worse, I will ask for it to be locked in a hurry!)
Here's what drives me nuts:
It's not the theories themselves, but the enormous amount of time some people spend trying to prove them. Great if the theory as at least some merit, but a lot of them are just hogwash based on a couple of internet articles and, as leejosepho commented, "contemplating one's navel."
What makes me so crazy over it is that here I am trying to figure out how to LIVE with what I have. It seems to me that learning to live with it effectively ought to be far more important than some of the ideas people are coming up with that even if they could prove them, won't help anyone live any better a damned bit!
They're coming to take me away haha! They're coming to take me away, ho ho, he he, ha ha, to the funny farm! Where life is beautiful all the time, and I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats, and THEY'RE COMING TO TAKE ME AWAY HA HA!
(If you feel slighted or tricked in ANY way shape or form, you have my sincerest apologies! It was NOT my intention.
)
Peace. Keep it real please. Thanks.

Ah, and I had a "theory" I might get busted for messing up your thread!
You bet.
Tired of following pie-eyed pipers.
If you ever get really good at baiting, you might be called a "master" at doing that.
Nevertheless, eventually getting into something that really "works", so to speak, means first pondering and trying and discarding theories.

Nah. I don't have a problem with it being hijacked, if that's what you mean. What I said above is pretty much all that was on my mind.
EDIT: Oh! You meant your "navel" comment, didn't you?
Well, I'm not sure precisely what you mean by that, but I think my first guess is probably right. Baiting, to quite honest with you, isn't something I have in me. So if it ever appears that's what I'm doing, believe me, it's never intentional. I suppose you could say it's something like always intentionally trying to avoid potholes while driving, so as not to splash pedestrians, and slipping into them anyway on occasion. I do not like flame wars, and avoid them like the plague, but every now and again, I do get suckered by them before I realize what's hit me. I try to put them out if I can. If I can't, well, just move on.
Absolutely. Of course. I do it all the time. I'm just at a point in my life, at least for the next few months where it's time to get to work on some really serious issues. Seeing so may theories drives me buggy right now. It's a timing thing as much as anything. I'm just expressing how I feel about it at the moment.
Just a bit buggy right now, which probably explains the way this thread turned out. Had something I wanted to say, thought better of it, at least about saying it in its entirety at the moment, and said as much as I thought I should at the moment. Pretty much all there is to it.

For some reason, this reminds me of a fishing story (the only one I've got).
When I was about fourteen, I had been fishing for years and never caught anything anywhere, no matter what I did. Whether I used lures or live bait, I never caught a thing. Then one day, I was at a local pond where I grew up, and tossed a lure into a pool, expecting the same results I'd always gotten. A wet lure. To my surprise, on the first cast, I hooked a rock bass by the gill and reeled him in. I cast again and caught another, this time hooked by the tail. I kept casting, hooking them right and left, but not one had bitten the lure. Hooked some by the fins, some by tails, and more by the gills. I caught fourteen of them that day in less than a half hour. Rock bass, which if you're a fisherman you already know, suck for eating. There's hardly any meat on them, and tons of bones. I filleted them anyway, and ate them that night. They weren't too bad either. I went fishing many times after that, and never caught another fish. I finally gave up fishing around the age of 29 after going out with a friend, and forgetting all my tackle at his house. I left town soon after that, and never even tried to get my tackle back. Why bother?
I guess you could say my skill for baiting on forums is about as good as my current fishing skills. I don't fish anymore. I don't even try to bait. But, every now and again, I'll toss a line out (really just looking for conversation), and hook a bunch of dang rock bass again.
When it does happen, it's just like back at the pond. I have NO clue how I manage to hook anything. The difference between now and then though, is that then I actually did want to hook something. These days, I'm really not interested in "playing the fish" anymore.
To get back on topic though:
I suppose you could say that theorizing is a lot like fishing. Tossing out a line, and hoping something bites hard enough to reel in. Hoping it's a nice trout, and not some slimy, squirming eel. Yech! ![]()

I do believe it all comes down to a balance between thinking and doing. Some people overthink things while doing nothing, some people overdo things without thinking, some people strike a healthy balance and get on with their lives without prattling away about whimsical thoughts on forums. ![]()
You are absolutely right Invader. And I've swung on that pendulum from one extreme to the other all of my life. And it's only when the pendulum swings toward doing that the theorizing starts to bug me. I'm looking in the dreaded mirror, and I don't like what I'm seeing!
GUILTY AS CHARGED!! !! !
Thanks for the laugh. Now I can get some sleep.

That doesn't even prove anything. Just because you know ONE Aspie that fits the theory at hand doesn't mean the theory is correct.

Miss, I'm 45, and to infer such a correlation in that one example would be risible. That one example wasn't meant to prove that all aspsie are correct ; I personally found it interesting.
But the fact is that people on the spectrum think quantitatively more so than typical folks, in part as a hypertrophic response to a social deficit . The O.P. qualified that with quantity and not necessarily in accuracy in said theories.
Aspies do test in the high range of I.Q. testing just as neurotypical people do. There are some here that hit in the 160 I.Q. range(WAIS) , and some substantially lower.
And the fact is though, a high I.Q. score correlates positively with academic achievements or success , and it is just a measure or a metric of cognitive abitilties and not to personal value. People who strut that score around would prove to be unwise ,overall in my estimation.
Everyone, autistic or NT, feesl the need to make sense of the world. If one way is impaired, we will compensate by using a different way. Analysing often works as a way for people with Aspergers.
