You can have my accent. I don't want it anymore. (j/k)
But anyway, I was thinking about this whole topic today... Not the accent thing, but the whole innocent view vs. dark gritty view of the world.
I used to be more on the innocent side, but the more I learned about people and society my views got kinda dark. Then I became involved in law enforcement -- Then I took a really huge turn towards looking at the world in a bleak light. I've also been mistreated for my aspie traits by people who were close to me.
These days I project the view of a happy (often mistaken for innocent) person and it often astonishes people when I change gears and talk about things from a more realistic point of view. I guess you could say that I've been around the block a few times, seeing the best and worst of different sorts of attitudes.
I could sit here and blame the world for my problems. I could blame other people, my family, me, AS or just about anything under the sun. Blame is a useless action that achieves
absolutely nothing. It's all just sour grapes. You can sit there and waste time being angry, bitter or sulking like some goth or emo scene kid, OR you can get out there and do something about it. At least try to carve out some sort of change in the world around you.
Happiness is ultimately a result of your state of mind, which is something you choose. The world reacts to your choices whether you want to be a part of that world or not.
All attitudes have a place. My life has improved in indescribable ways since I outwardly took a more positive approach to things. But should my light innocent side get me into a bad spot, it's nice to know I have the dark gritty side lingering in the background to come to the rescue.
