I ignore every comment when people use things like that on me. I don't acknowledge it in any way. I don't find it offensive, but I find that it is disruptive to a conversation.

Words are given power by people, take it away by not being offended. Don't make it a thing!

I remember on another forum that was NT, someone kept saying "Asperger's" so maybe we can introduce some snake meat into your assburger?

Well when I first heard of the term I thought it sounded funny, too. You have to blame the guy it was named after. :) When you think about it a lot of the doctors and whatever who was brilliant probably had pretty stupid sounding names. I have Grave's disease. Couldn't that guy have a better name? I just tell people I have thyroid problem. Sometimes I think it's time to ditch this naming medical conditions after people tradition and come up with some names that make sense. One of my friends' last name is "Friend", imagine that. If he ever become a famous doctor I wonder if there'll be something called Friendly syndrome. :D

My parents and I have always pronounced it "Ass-purr-gers"

In French, Asperger's Syndrome is called le syndrome d'Asperger - which must make people think of some kind of urinary incontinence. :P

Seriously, I didn't think of 'ass burgers' until I saw it spelt that way for fun, and I've never seen anyone here find it a funny name, maybe it sounds funnier to Americans because they use the word 'ass' more than we Britons do (we prefer 'arse').

That pronouciation is rather stupid. My grandfather, who is loud and boisterous, pronounces it like that just to annoy me.

I have never seen this "ass burgers" thing anywhere except WrongPlanet and some nasty, troublemaking sites that are occasionally posted in this forum.

Where I am everyone says it like Asp-berjers, with a soft "g".

It's bad luck that the German name referring to us is what it is. We're already predisposed to being made fun of. I wish Asperger happened to have a different name, such as Einstein, or other admirable German names... But it could be worse. It could have been Fuchs, or other German names that can be twisted easily.

It never really bothered me. Actually I pronounce it that way. I've only heard it once differently, actually, someone on youtube who made the P stand out more. But that's just harder to say to me.
