And are you living in a group home today?
Anyway, what is "high functioning" and "low functioning" I guess would be dependent on what kind of society we are living in. The more competition, the more individuals are beaten out (revolving chairs).

No but I still live with my parents. If my parents were hard core curbies I'd probably be livng in a group home.
In my country, one quarter of all individuals between age 18 and 28 are living with their parents. The reason is very simple - there are no apartments around, at least none which students or youths could afford to rent. In some cases, its so bad you have to pay 200 000$ to be able to rent a flat.
As long as you are studying or planning to study, there's nothing wrong with that. If you find going to school too hard, I'm sure there distance courses somewhere.
Nothing is ever a real disaster unless you have a plan on how to get out of such a situation.
I do plan to go to college as soon as I finish high school and hopfully go on to veternary school and not only have a place of my own, but have a good job. I'm 23 but I'm still in high school because I took some medicine at 16 that messed up my brain and made it impossible for me to learn. It took about four years for it to fully get out of my system and I had to stop school for a while but I started school once again when I felt better. I'm basicaly homeschooled but I do most of the courses by myself. I don't think I am mentaly ready for even junior or community colege yet so I think still being in high school is a blessing in diguise. I'll probably be getting my accociates online or at the community college by the HEB next year. For my bachlor's I'll probably go to Texas Tech. I do NOT want to go to A&M for vet school becuase A&M seems like a club for smarty-pants hicks and cowboys. They seem to be a brain farm and I think they would give me a hard time about needing acomodations. Ohio State has more down to earth preresaquites and not ass-kissing junk like literature and history but I'm afraid I will run into my old bullies from grade school there. I know that's stupid but it's a worry.
