Do I have mild aspergers or am I just an odd NT?

I am undiagnosed and I also have no trouble in most social situations. However I do have trouble with emotions and intimacy. So much so that it has affected my marriage. Is it as - I think so but I am learning strategies to hopefully save my marriage.

I am new here, so sorry if i go on and on.

I have always suspected there was something different about me. For starters: i can NEVER read peoples faces or body language. For example, i can't even tell when my grandma is happy.
My parents told me that when i was a young kid i never cried, even when a relative or pet died. The last time i cried was when i was deathly ill and had a body tempurature of 104 and was hallucinating.
They also told me that i would often not wear clothes because they bothered me for some reason. They will never admit that i have any issues, but i do remember them once testing me for autism. I passed the test with the doctor saying i was "normal" but just barely.

I often stare at things, and can be amused doing this for hours. My aquaintences sometimes describe me as "brutally honest" but really, i just don't know what to say most of the time.
I own and can quote from three separate dog encyclopedias. I can go on forever about dogs, and usually do. My friend hates it.

My lack of emotional response and connection really makes it hard to work at school, and a lot of the time i spend way more time on a project that i should because i get so absorbed in my own little world.

I get yelled at quite a few times a day because i tune everything out, then don't hear when i am called on. It is helpful, but also hurtful to be able to do this.

There is one thing though, that i can not tune out: Bees. Or any flying insect for that mater. I am fine if they are near me, but as soon as they fly near my head and i hear their wings i just get freaked out. I'm not afraid of bugs, but people often misunderstand why i freak. The noise is just creepy and so annoying that i flip out and turn into a crazy fake ninja or something.

As for the hug/touching thing, i don't know if i don't like to be touched just because of Aspergers, or if it is a mix of that and my germophobia.

I took the online test and these are my results:
Your Aspie score: 159 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 39 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

I really wish my parents would accept that i have issues and let me be diagnosed for real, but that will never happen because my parents think that i am perfect and can't possibly be different. Having an actual diagnosis would help me explain my situation to teachers and maybe help with my groupwork problems, but oh well, i will just have to tough it out like i have my whole life.

Well, at least now i know where I fit in right? :?

I think my signature line adequately sums me up. :P

I have a fair amount of aspie traits. I don't make eye contact. I don't do small-talk readily. I sometimes miss social cues (e.g. I might keep talking about a topic and be unaware that others aren't paying attention or have moved on to something else). I sometimes don't know how to respond appropriately in social situations, or I might overreact. I'm not great at emotional intimacy. I stim. I melt down and shut down when I get upset. I get obsessed over certain topics. I can be obstinate and stubborn, and I tend to be set in my ways. I've had a therapist tell me that I seem to "tend toward" AS (though that could mean I fall under BAP and not AS).

On the other hand, I don't have serious sensory issues as far as I can tell (though I may be a little sensitive so certain kinds of touch or get overwhelmed in busy, chaotic places), and I don't think I'm as socially impaired as some with AS are. I do a decent job at reading facial expressions (or so the online tests indicate). And with some of the traits, it's really hard to say for sure whether I have it or not, despite the presence of a good number of AS traits, because I can't get into the minds of others. I don't know how others' minds work compared to mine.

But regardless of diagnosis (or lack thereof), I like it here, because I can relate to a lot of what others post here. :D

You have Me Syndrome! I was just thinking the same thing about myself! I've never been too strong in the sciences and general T things, but I couldn't fully relate to F because I am awkward and very blunt and I love criticism, and I do NOT need much affirmation at all. I value criticism over praise. I have the same eye contact thing, and I actually do have trouble though with facial recognition and facial expressions. I also didn't really know that there were so many words in the language of body language until like this year. And I am taking classes in it online. Sometimes. I took pictures of myself making faces for various emotions and I couldn't even pinpoint which emotion each one corresponded to...no wonder people get confused when they see my facial expressions! I express a lot, but apparently I express incorrectly....my bad. Like with my eyebrows, people say I have an intense glare when all I'm doing is looking at someone. And not at their eyes of course ˆ_ˆ

As far as romance goes, I'm actually pretty good, if I do say so myself. When I broke up with my long-distance boyfriend, I helped two other people get over their exes as well (that's something else, I reason my way out of things, so I seem very NT). What I mean by this is I analyzed the emotions that resulted from their miscommunications and I made them aware of it - while getting both sides, of course.

I reasoned my way out of having depression as well, so by nature I am an optimist. I thought that was an NT trait, but I've noticed that many ENTPs are negative. ENFPs are supposedly full of energy (which I am) and very happy.

The largest plus side I see to being ENFP and an Aspie is having both T and F at once. We're like the Jack of all Trades. Then again, it's like the Jack of no Trades..... but then again, we can be objective and understand (some) emotion as well! And we can help people and stuff. I'm very happy to be who I am, I don't know about you! (:

I think you have Aspergers just from that long ass article you wrote.

I fell asleep after paragraph 3.

You seem awfully Aspie-ish to me, but again it's hard to tell.

If you could explain how your mind works we could get a better sense.

Have your quirks interfered with your making friends and working with your peer group? That's a big one.

What is your score on the A.Q. Test? (Google it and see.)

In the end, only a professional diagnosis can confirm or rule out A.S.

To all high-functioning NTs, consider yourselves lucky, because if it is hard to tell, it ain't that bad
