I don't think it's bad. It sounds like you want a boyfriend and a ring, that's the kind of stuff you see all over the internet, hardly shocking, lol.
I guess she meant you should write, "That's the most beautiful ring ever. You are so lucky to be so cherished. I wish I had a boyfriend who would buy me stuff like that!" You have to intro so the focus is on the person who got the ring.
Yes, what you wrote was true, but this is a fuller version of the truth that includes your good feelings towards your friend.
