I prefer taking the fingers of one hand and putting the fingertips into the nearest hollow between fingers until they make steadily rising r shapes with the thumb completely horizontal via my double joint.
Then I stop it, start doing the same thing with the other hand and repeat.

Oh, and I wind hair around my finger endlessly too.
Though it's possible I just haven't found a way to rock that feels natural for me.

Rocking is great, calms me down after a long day :D

I do it when I'm really really excited too though...

"for those about to rock, we salute you"

I also rock sometimes and do other repetitive body movements-and I like watching spinning things like clothes in the dryer at the laundromat too.

Hmm, I can't believe I forgot until now, but when I was younger I went to my aunt's house and watched the clothes in the washing machine spin and spin for what seemed like hours. I like spinning tops too.
When I get really stressed I just sit in a corner, covering my head with my arms and sobbing. Sometimes I rock back and forth, but most of the time I just cry and cover my head. When I was in middleschool I stopped doing it because my roommate (I lived at a boarding school... let me tell you, not a pleasant time, three years of hell on earth) said that I looked freakish and yelled at me for doing it, but recently my habit returned....

Who? Now I'm curious :? PM me ;)

I rock very frequently when I study. I do it quite a bit in public/when I am with at least one person, too. It is really helpful in taking the anxiety/stress away. Pretty daydream-inducing, too.

Damn, I just saw this thread, and wanted to be the first to make a pun. :(

But on-topic: My stimming only rarely involves rocking.

Stims are my own way of dealing with anxiety. As for rocking, I find I do it without even realizing it. From side to side while standing, back and forth when sitting... It feels so natural.
