We don't know what Einstein was, and we never will.

But one thing he was not was neurologically typical. His brain showed specific and obvious abnormalities. A person with brain abnormalities is by definition not neurotypical. "Not neurotypical" doesn't mean autistic, it just means neurologically atypical. There are many, many neurological atypicalities in the world.

What we will probably never know is what condition he had, or even if his brain abnormalities formed a "condition" at all that we have knowledge of. But he did have pretty obvious brain abnormalities. They took it out and studied it in great detail. So he was not neurotypical. We just don't know what else he was, or how those neurological atypicalities manifested in the world.

Einstein had many "girlfriends" because they weren't girlfriends, they were companions. He said himself that he preferred companionship over a relationship, or even worse, marriage. Combine that with fame, and he was able to have many "girlfriends" And even if he was AS, how does that prevent someone from being with women? Just because someone has Asperger's does not mean they can't have a relationship or two. There are people on here who have dated 10 people, or so they claim. And he wasn't a playboy. Playboys have to have had at least 10 girlfriends by the age of 30. That's the rule. So what if I made it up? THAT'S THE RULE.

Apparently he had a ridiculously heavy brain. And superbly sculpted buttocks.

I made one of the above statements up.

I disagree because his mind wasn't typical it was extraordinary. You could try and argue that he wasn't autistic but to argue he was neuro-typical is crazy.

I'm not very interested in Einstein's mind at all but I was in a dental waiting room a while ago and read an article on the research of brains of geniuses (they had cut a lot of them up to study after they had died) and it said a genius often has a brain which is different and either closer together or further apart. They did dissect Einstein's brain so perhaps you could look into that for a good idea, I can't be bothered though.

A male aspie is lucky to get one girlfriend and they hold on to them for dear life usually from what i could see.

That's funny because I actually have a friend who can't emotionally connect with people at all but he has his pulling technique polished and he collects sex with women as his obsession.

I've had several relationships and I've got AS.

QFT.

Trying to diagnose the dead is nothing more than meaningless speculation that does nothing for the living people who have actually been diagnosed. Even if it were proven that Einstein had AS, that wouldn't mean that all people with AS have the same potential or the same talent. Honestly, why do people try so hard to pin that label on someone who's been dead for a long time?

Famous people tend to attract people who want to be a part of the fame.

He got most of his girlfriends after he won the Nobel prize, didn't he? His first wife, Serbian born Mileva Maric was a fellow scientist studying at the Zurich Polytechnic. They both had a shared interest, which explains the attraction. After he got famous, there must have been groupies. Once someone becomes highly esteemed and earns a bit of celebrity, they tend to attract people of the opposite gender or the same gender if they are inclined, who want to be with them only because of their fame, money, influence, etc. Einstein could be autistic and still attract these admirers after he won the Nobel.

The debate on whether Einstein was autistic is important to me for just one reason: Precedent. If Einstein and others like him were autistic, it's precedent that autistic people can do amazing things. Not necessarily all autistic people, but that it can happen. Examples like this go a long way to shooting the arguments for autistic extermination/ghettoization straight to Hell.

That precedent is long-established- Aspergers himself referred to his patients as "little professors".
Einstein is not needed- most people who are at all informed about Autism are well-aware that it can bestow upon someone extraordiary gifts, from run of the mill hyperlexia to savant capabilities.

The people who'd like to "exterminate" Autism aren't likely to be swayed by facts or anything sane, or they simply do not care.

You kidding? I get all da bitchz ;)

In all seriousness, though, that's a stereotype and can't be used as evidence of anything. By your logic, you can say that Einstein can't have been a scientist, because scientists are nerds, and nerds never get girlfriends

On a more general note, you can't proclaim any historical figure to be NT any more than you can proclaim them to be autistic. You can theorise and debate all day long, but no one will ever know for sure unless they have some sort of time machine.
