That's not good. Why did they do that? Shoes should be fit with at least 1/2 inch or 12 mm or so, of extra room beyond the longest toe, or you can get serious bone deformities, plantar fasciitis, chronic ingrown nails, and other painful trouble. My parents were very thrifty and didn't spend any money unnecessarily, but they did see to it that I had properly-fitted (albeit cheap), shoes at all times.

I hate going barefoot, as I always find a razor blade or a thumb tack to step on.... If not that, then a dead frog, or ??? So I wear shoes everywhere except in bed.

Hmm, for me i've got to wear socks. Like the feel of grass or sand briefly on my feet, but hate the grimy gritty feeling you get at the end of a day...ugh. Socks have to be the right way round to avoid the seams underneath, shoes have got to be comfy. My trainers are about to expire having been worn daily for years, not looking forward to replacing them as it means breaking in a new pair.

I hate wearing shoes but I have to at work. If I could I would go barefoot as much as possible. I've been known to wear flip flops in the winter if there isn't too much snow around. I wear flip flops when I need to walk on unsafe things.

Crouchtig, I also love going barefoot! I'd do it everywhere and all the time if I could.
You asked about any support groups for people really into going barefoot? I used to be a member of such a group! I think they now call themselves the "Society for Barefoot Living". You might want to check them out! They are supposed to accept anyone who wants to join them (even Aspies? They should...)
There are also other groups scattered around the internet of people who enjoy going barefoot. Just search for "barefooter groups".
Anyway, just wanted to mention them! Good luck! :D

I love being barefoot. I'm always barefoot at home. If I could I would go barefoot everywhere all the time. The closest I get to going barefoot outside is flip flops which I wear most of the time. I also like wearing shorts all the time as well even when its cold out :)

This exactly. I don't mind wearing shoes, but because I enjoy walking on them, they wear out pretty fast. As I have been broke for months, I can only afford to buy the cheapest pairs, which I end up replacing literally once a month. I really need to invest in a shoe that will last half a year.

DS wears shoes as seldom as possible. He would rather walk barefoot on gravel and stones than wear shoes. It may have something to do with being a 5 year old boy but time will tell...

I have wood floors and am not much of a sweeper, so I wear flip-flops all the time. Don't like stepping on anything.

I didn’t know there were so many other nelipots on here. (A nelipot is someone who enjoys walking/being barefoot.)
I dislike wearing shoes for both of the reasons of them causing discomfort and problems and I like being able to feel the texture, temperature and moisture/dryness of the ground I’m walking on.

My feet blister really easily and I have more widely spaced toes than people whose feet have always been shod, which make cramming them into shoes which all have far too narrow toe boxes for me uncomfortable. And then also when my toes are squashed up inside shoes my feet go flat and I get pain across the arch.

I’ve tried specialist shoes with a wide toe box and arch supports but after trying them on at home for about ten minutes they gave me painful knees which didn’t seem to get better with wearing them for a bit everyday so I gave up on them.

A few months ago I bought myself a pair of Vibram Five Fingers – shoes with separate toe pockets to mimic being barefoot. They are the one and only pair of shoes not to give me any problems and I love them. As soon as I put them on I felt my arches were up in a position they should be in, they don’t rub and my toes aren’t squashed in. I’m sure they’ve improved my arches too, I did get an ache across my arches at first as if a muscle had been working more than usual and I feel like my feet aren’t so flat anymore. Only two things that aren’t perfect are that they are rubber soled which prevents earthing happening and I can’t bend/curl my toes.

There is a group of barefooters and their website has a lot of useful information: http://www.barefooters.org/

I hate wearing shoes as well! I almost never do :)

I tiptoe around barefoot as often as possible, but I do wear thongs (flip flops) when I go out, because I really don't need another reason for people to stare at me. I also have to wear shoes for my job, and I swear they are systematically destroying what is left of my arches. The socks are very uncomfortable and itch on my ankles all day, and let's not talk about when you can't get the seams to a place that isn't annoying...

Well, when I am alone I typically remove them, but I have a strage aversion to others seeing my feet. I guess I just do not consider bare feet to be presentable.

I wouldn't say I "hate" wearing shoes or that I "love" being barefoot but I've never worn shoes at home. I just don't.

I hate wearing shoes, but I hate socks even more.

When I wear shoes, they're sockless. Even in winter - I get warm boots so I can be sockless without feeling cold.

I also remove my shoes whenever I can, which is:

At home, or at other people's homes when I'm visiting.
Whenever I sit down (I sit with my legs next to my body or else kneel on my chair).
Outside if it's warm out and I'm not walking on rocks.
Anytime I'm walking in sand (sand in shoes is the worst part of wearing shoes).
Any situation where going barefoot is socially accepted - some people actually wear special shoes at the pool, that makes no sense to me.
