I have been teaching for 23 years (19 years high school English and 4 years in the talented and gifted program---which has now been cut). Beginning next school year I will be teaching 7th grade writing and technology. Writing is my favorite subject to teach. I have worked with junior high students in the past in summer enrichment programs. I have also been a writing instructor at our local university.

One interesting reason I chose teaching was that it offered a schedule that I had lived by since I entered Kindergarten. It was an environment that was part of my routine. The thought of other work environments didn't seem right. I wanted to remain with my routine. I enjoy teaching students about writing. Writing offers us many opportunities to pull in our interests and research them. Although teaching can be frustrating at times, it can also give us many rewards.

I just finished teaching my first class at the university level: "White-Collar and Corporate Crime." It was online, and will be again (I have it for the summer and fall also) and it went very well.

I was a graduate assistant four times before this, and I have also been a tutor.

I like helping others learn. If they become interested in a subject I care about, I feel like I am doing something that matters. For a while, I wasn't sure, but the ending comments from the students (they are actually going to use what they learned in other classes/future careers) told me that the course had a positive effect on them. Several now have an interest in the subject they never did before.

I wouldn't mind being a university teacher for a higher level math class or something. Other than that, count me out of this.
