No, but I think there are more benefits to eating slow. You get full faster and you tend to not overeat as much.

That's total garbage. I don't overeat. Up until I was 12 or so I was borderline underweight. I'm not that bad anymore, but I still know when I should stop eating, even though I finish a meal in about 5 minutes.

Totally agree, OP.
It's especially-embarrassing at restaurants because I'll be sitting there done while everyone else is just starting to "dig in".
Yesterday at an Italian place, my mother and I were both eating breadsticks, and I had finished mine, (and marinara sauce) and my appetizer salad before she'd even started hers.
Luckily, I remembered from last time, and ordered two veggie wraps for my entree (didn't eat the accompanying fries) so I got done at around the same time as everyone else. :D

I eat faster than anyone I know except for, sometimes, my dad.

I eat fast, usually because the food is either:
A: So good that I can't get enough of it
B: So awful that I want to get it over with ASAP.

Eating fast causes me lots of digestive problems though, but I really can't help it even if I try. It's frustrating when I try to eat slower.

I can't do anything fast, so no, I eat very slowly. I eat as slowly as very old people wearing dentures do. :D I wonder if I'll eat so slow when I'm old I'll be grazing all day.

Im tongan so eating a lot of food is definitional to being tongan. It seems that amongst all my cousins (my mom has 7 siblings with 4+ kids each, my dad has 8 siblings with 5+ kids each), the overweight ones scarf their food down extremely fast, without much chewing. The fit or thinner ones do eat for a very very long time, though the portions of food consumed isn't that different between the two groups... sometimes the thinner ones will eat more food over a longer period of time and the larger ones will eat a little less food in a matter of minutes or seconds. So I'm guessing it is not the portion but the speed, or maybe there's nothing to be read into this at all.

I tend to eat quickly. I timed myself once. It took me less than 2 minutes to eat a Burger King Double Whopper with cheese. However, I usually attribute my quickness to the fact that I eat alone more often than not. On the rare occasion I eat a meal with people there is often conversation, which slows me down. Although I do remember one time several years ago when I was at a mall food court with a friend. She wasn't hungry but I was, so I got a corn dog. She turned her head and did a little people watching. By the time she looked back at me I was scraping cornbread off the stick. She looked at me and said, "You ate that f***ing fast!" I think I shrugged.

One thing I have noticed is that my eating speed seems to have slowed somewhat as I've gotten older. I'm not sure I could repeat either the corn dog or Whopper feats now.

I eat slowly when I sit down with a meal. However, I don't do meals very often. I'm more of a grazer.

I eat fast. It disturbs me when someone asks me to eat with them, and then they expect me make small talk at the same time. It pretty much ruins the eating part of our meeting.

I eat even faster than that. It's not like I'm trying to chomp it down as quickly as possible, either. It's just my natural speed. I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing in between bites. Bite into it, chew it, swallow it, take another bite. That's eating. Right?

I used to eat pretty fast but I've slowed down significantly since making efforts to talk during eating and not eating during talking. My tendency to be a bit long-winded means I tend to finish last these days.

Yup.

I once saw a question in a personality quiz, in the introvert-extravert section, that said "are you always the first to finish your meals?" So maybe the experts have known for a long time that there's a good correlation between rapid eating and introversion. I've also read that one big reason that food is provided at social gatherings is that chewing and nibbling reduces social stress.....so maybe we aren't the only people who stim.

Consciously I tend to see eating as a task, and as I've had a lot of practice, I tend to do it quickly and efficiently. I was surprised when I first noticed some people occasionally putting down their knives and forks to rest when eating in a social setting. I can't see it working with hot food, unless you've got an electrically-heated plate.

I knew one guy (probably an Aspie) who would just go into a world of his own while eating, so you couldn't get any social activity out of him at all until he'd finished.

Oh, I'm also extra slow because I really dislike overly hot food. I usually spend the first few minutes of dinner waiting for it to cool off a bit so I can start eating.
