This is like asking if you associated with zebras enough, you will adopt zebra like behavior and thinking, not whether you'll become a zebra.

This reminds me of feral children who were abandoned and raised by animals. The girl in the Ukraine raised by dogs can imitate their behavior remarkably well. But this is someone raised by a different species from a very young age. Not sure if obsessing on Autism alone is enough to result in acting Autistic in a "power of suggestion" way. I wonder tho, can someone be hypnotized into acting Autistic? What if an individual open to suggestibility were hypnotized by a professional who suggested they do a stim, like rocking back and forth, demonstrate a fascination with moving parts and an intolerance for having routines disrupted? Would the person demonstrate these behaviors because of it?

As I have already pointed out: my computer is a great tool for me and my window on the world and that is the case for most people with autism, So point your nasty moralising finger in another direction because most of the people on this forum are for real, they don't think that they are autistic, they simply are and always have been, wether you believe it or not. I still think that I can improve myself and I try to be as positive as I can but that's not always easy.

Lol, what? I wasn't implying that most people on here were originally neurotypicals who became autistic. My intention was, primarily, could I become more like an autistic person the more I associated with you guys on here. If so, then being on here might be bad for my real life social health. Of course, "social health" is a mixture of real life and "not real life"(i.e., internet) socialization, so maybe being on here might actually improve the social health for certain types of people who aren't autistic. Like, possibly, those who find incredible social reward in helping people with their neurotypical perspective and understanding, like Janissy and Mydar (Thanks guys for the insight!).

My guess is that you can "become more autistic" if you are already autistic and WP encourages you to stop some of your NT faking, drop your internalized NT needs and wants, and roll with your natural autistic self. An NT will not become autistic from being on WP.

That's the last time I visit those zebra forums.

I like zebras but I couldn't eat a whole one.

Well, you are welcome. And see, you have some ToM applied here; you understand the (subconscious) motive behind this. You pegged it without this declared intent by either of us.

Maybe you are nuerotypical

The vicious cycle continues..........>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. :P

You got massacreists
You got nice boys and girls
You got narcissistic meanies
You got girlies flicking their hair
And you got wood

No, you won't become Autistic from spending too much time here.

Though I think at least a few folks have fooled themselves into thinking they are.

S'cuse me. I seem to be developing black stripes on my body. I need to get this checked out...

I feel you have subtly rephrased your original question. Having originally given a fairly firm No as an answer I find I want to say 'maybe'. To conduct an effective friendship with someone who has AS I feel I have to understand his way of thinking and to do that i'm almost thinking the thoughts myself, kind of trying them out for size. Not adopting them but to see why that way of thinking works for the other person. Over time a bit of it does rub off, now that I think about it more carefully.

Some will fall into their autism, either out of despair, or in celebration

Some will fight themselves and emulate full neurotypical syndrome.....

Most will meh, and stay the same as before

No, because you are not witnessing all our behaviors in real life. How can you take on our behaviors from just reading about them a lot? Besides even if your around aspies in real life, you brain wiring cant change from NT to aspie, doesnt mean you cant adapt aspie-like behaviors but you cant become as aspie. Its like how aspies are always around NT and work hard to adapt NT like behaviors. Us adapting NT like behaviors is not going to change our brain wiring.

So, it's well known that you tend to imitate those who you associate with.

Also, considering the excessive computer use effectively diminishes one's social schools to autistic like levels, that's another way being on Wrong Planet too much might make someone more autistic.

Really? I never imitated people I associated with.

I don't believe computer use diminishes social skills. I didn't even really have access to the internet until I was 23 and had horrible social skills as a kid. If anything I've found that being online helps my social skills as I interact with more people on it than in real life. If not for the internet the only person I'd be talking to most of the time is my mother.
