I self-diagnosed myself and I am making it official soon, I have no problem with people diagnosing themselves since everyone does it with flu or whatever all the time and no one ridicules them, with the possible exception of man-flu of course lol

What annoys me more than anything else though is that this "character" has basically swept in, and in one episode has shown people what Aspergians are like (in fantasy land) and lets not get into the whole "this is not what it is about", people are still pretty stupid, for an example of this one person in England was found out to be a paediatrician and he found himself bricked and dead...

I might've thought it would be cool for them to have an aspie character in the show, but now I can plainly see that the writers are not responsible enough for it. It will take a HELL of a lot more than a couple of lines later on to repair the damage done in that episode.

While I can be an a**hole sometimes I always strive not to be, going so far as to be the epitome of politeness, most people who use this as an excuse to be an a**hole belong in a psychiatric ward for a few years to show them the error of their ways.

I guess this is why I never said I have AS. It would have to be self-diagnosed. I fit all the criteria I have read so far. As far back as I can remember, it has been a straight line to AS. I grew up before AS was a diagnosis, and now I can't afford to get the diagnosis. The county mental health place is a joke. No mental health practitioners in my area will take my insurance. So, I guess I'm stuck, huh? Yes, I first heard about AS in tv. I only looked into it because she was the first person I ever saw who made me feel like there may be other people like me in the universe, and maybe I did fit somewhere after all.

Forgive me here if I am wrong, but are you telling me someone can only be Aspergerian if a doctor says so? I hope not, because I finally feel like I fit somewhere.

I actually find some of the songs they do catchy (FML), but I think the show is a complete sham, such a fake attempt at diversity/respect. Example: using transphobic slurs, acting like they're heroes for having people of color but only centering the white characters, etc.

dude, she doesn't really have asperger's. it's more spoiled brat syndrome where she uses whatever excuses she can to get her way. totally not a serious character. if they had a character who actually HAD asperger's i'm sure it would be handled completely differently. besides, i'm sure a real aspie wouldn't use asperger's as an excuse to be mean to people, am i right?

No, you're missing my point. I'm not saying that only people who can afford to get a diagnosis have Asperger's syndrome, because obviously that isn't true. I'm saying that there are people all over the internet who make a mockery of AS by self-diagnosing then shoving it in people's faces, which trivialises the condition and spoils it for genuine sufferers (who may or may not have an official diagnosis).

Personally I find the whole show offensive...no wait...what's the word I'm looking for? Ah yes...

I think that when some NTs watch popular TVs shows with aspie characters they fall in love with them and secretly want to be aspies.
They want to be quirky loners. They may self-diagnose them self to make a fashion statement. Most of the time this is a desperate teen that craves acceptance.
A quirky loner may be cool for someone with an interest in the indie,punk,emo or goth scene. This would be considered a poser.

Glee is making me sad now. I used to love glee, but now this, I don't think I want to see Season 3 when it comes on here. What if it comes on, people I know see her. If I tell them I have AS they would then compare me to her, never mind she's self-diagnosed and using it as an excuse to be rude, never mind our own Kiwi drama show features a surgeon with AS, who I'm already compared to. Glee is popular here, I hear everyone talk about it.

Well... don't you have to kinda self-diagnose before you know to go get an official diagnosis? You have to think there's a problem before you try to do something about it.

I don't recall ever seeing one. I've been on the internet since before the DSM-IV was published. Surely if there were such a plague of self-diagnosed asshats running around I would have come across at least one or two?
