Do you have unusual eating habits, incl food fads?
Im very repetitive in my food preferences. If health wasnt important I could probably go for months eating less than 10 different foods. Will go though phases where there are only a few foods I want to eat and many I dont. At the moment I want to eat rice crackers, peas, beans and meat, and dont want fruit, nuts, bread, pasta etc. I also like to always have the same breakfast. Food texture is also important, I really like mushy foods and really crisp foods.

6 of the meals are exactly the same thing Ive been eating for more than 1 year.
6:30 AM: 3/4 of a cup of Oatmeal
10:00 AM: One can of Bumble Bee tuna
12:30 PM: One Honey Crisp apple one can of Bumble Bee tuna
3:00 PM: One can of Bumble Bee tuna
5:00 PM: One Honey Crisp apple
7:30 PM: Salad Broccoli and Chicken Breast.
9:30 PM: I find a snack.
Mostly I started this because I got into weightlifting and calisthenics but that only lasted a few months. I keep the same food and eating schedule though.
There are many reasons here are a few: routine, I know what to expect, sameness, unwilling to change, and much more.
Before this I was eating the same thing everyday as well.
Yes I know I'm weird, thank you.
Not to scare you or anything but
Ottawa's Kevin Walker found out about the risks of eating too much canned tuna the hard way. Walker, a health-conscious consumer, used to eat two to three cans of tuna per day for its health benefits.
Lean tested Walker's body for mercury content and found it was four times higher than levels recommended by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
"If I hadn't met David, my levels would probably be at a dangerous level," said Walker. "I think it's irresponsible on Canada's part, Health Canada, for not educating the public about the concern of consuming too much tuna."
It took one year for Walker's mercury levels to drop to normal after he stopped eating canned tuna.

I sometimes drink vinegar and mild vinegar-based barbeque sauces.
I hat a lot of vegetables--for both taste and texture. When I was young, I hated just about all vegetables due to the texture. I was very, very picky as a child. I ate mostly pizza, mac and cheese, hot pocket and ramen noodles.
I usually eat my food in a certain order. I usually eat the stuff on my plate that I like the least first and work my way the the food I like the most last. I eat them one at a time as well. I have a food obsession with pickles, pickled onions and Vanilla Rice Krispies. I could seriously live off of Vanilla Rice Krispies my whole life. I go through one box every two days, I could probably go through one box a day if I really wanted to. I also love yogourt smoothies and milkshakes. If they're offered at a restaurant I'll usually order one.
Also, a quirky food habit is whenever I order a sub, I'll order a pizza sub with tomatoes and pickles and I'll have it heated up in the microwave.
Have to keep items separate. Even for a hamburger, have to keep plain of any extra items besides the bun. Smooth condiments give extrasensory perception, and anything crunchy give me a "foreign object" warning that I would have to spit out. But I can eat a crunchy food by itself.
I go through phases where I will crave only a particular food for up to weeks at a time.
So I have to rely on multivitamins for a lot.
Food that come up fairly often are cream of wheat, eggs, toast, all beef hot dogs, almonds, ice cream (always 1 flavor).
I like my food to have an even texture, no crunchy bits mixed in with somethings soft, things like stir-fry or stews can't have any on ingredient I don't like because it'll contaminate the whole thing.
Sometimes with food that is still good/ in date, I can't shake the suspicion that it's 'bad' and can't eat it even if there seems to be nothing wrong with it. Has anyone else experienced that?
As a potential future pregnant person I fret about tuna a lot, because it's a good protein and I can usually eat it (plus cheap, cheap is good) but mercury is a concern. I probably over worry, but it takes a lot of the enjoyment out of eating it for me.

I used to drink vinegar too when I was a kid.
I'm a very picky eater, I eat a limited range of foods and find trying new foods difficult at best and sometimes impossible. I try and eat as wide a variety of things as possible but I would quite happily eat the same food almost every day for weeks if not months. Once I only ate porridge for 3 months when I was under a lot of stress.
I am quite fussy about texture and what foods go with other foods - there are lots of rules although sometimes I am not sure what the rule is until I am faced with the plate and I know it is somehow 'wrong'. I also don't eat foods both cooked and uncooked, it is usually either or. So for example I eat cooked sweatcorn but not raw, and I eat raw carrot but never cooked. It is all a bit ridiculous and if I could fix it I would, but attempting to force myself to eat things I am unhappy with usually ends in tears.
Luckily I do eat quite a good variety of veg and most fruit so the main risk of my picky eating is social embarrassment rather than scurvy.

I am one of the world's pickiest eaters. I can usually find something edible on most menus, but that is mostly because most places carry chicken or plain cheeseburgers. I seldom eat much at pot-luck dinners because I have to know what is in the casserole before I can even try it.
I often eat the same thing morning, noon, dinner and snacks for days on end. When I was living single, I'd often make a large pan of food, usually lasagna, on the weekend and eat off it all week long. When working, I often live on Zone bars during the day -- I prefer the Chocolate Almond Raisin flavor.
I've always hated most vegetables -- they often make me gag. same for fruits -- often the closest I get is juice or dried. I do like v-8, spaghetti sauce and cooked cabbage and cooked bell peppers. I take vitamins to make certain my nutritional needs are met.
Since I started having glucose issues (steadily heading towards Type 2 Diabetes), I've had to watch my carb intake, making certain that I take in at least 1 gram of protein for each 2 grams of carbs. This only further contributes to the tendency to buy stacks of the same tv dinner ![]()
I guess I feel lucky that some of my special interests are food and cooking. A few years ago I made a habit of, when grocery shopping, buying one thing that I had not had before, or for many many years. I have discovered some exellent things that way, including what I consider the best thing I ever tasted, a ripe pluot.
My problem with restaurants is usually "not enough napkins". And I detest the cloth ones.
DogsWithoutHorses, I've been craving certain fruit juices for months but there is no convenient place to get them near where I live.
OP, yes! I cannot be in the same room as scrambled eggs or hard-boiled eggs (there are reasons for this), can't eat an egg that has a hard yolk (when I say "poached soft," I damned well mean "poached soft," not "boiled"), can't be in the same room as Kraft macaroni and cheese, can't eat anything containing raw tomatoes, can't eat anything that's ever been in contact with ketchup, can't eat anything containing cream cheese, can't stand being anywhere near cottage cheese, and am very wary about sour cream, although I make an exception for onion dips. I also detest biscuits made from Pillsbury canned dough and will not touch anything that contains canned cream of mushroom soup. I also will not eat anything containing beets. I think that covers it.
I am not a picky eater, but I can't stand certain textures, both in eating and in cooking the food (eg. slimy) and certain strong flavors (bitter, "fermented", acid).
I love cooking, and I try to vary, even though I usually end up eating the same thing for a few days in a row (which I don't mind) because I need to cook in batches to stay in the budget.
I do go through food fads, but they last one or two weeks maximum.

I'm a fussy eater.
I eat the same breakfast every day, and mostly bland foods at other times.
Due to health problems I can't eat spicy or acidic foods and drinks. Also beans, onions, tea, coffee, lentils, and greasy or fried foods.
I can't stand rubbery or slimy foods, garlic, blue cheese, mint.
I can eat the same meal two or three times, but then I want something a bit different.
I'll eat any kind of meat. I would eat a completely carnivorous diet if I could. I'll try any type of meat, even organ meat, from any animal.
But when it comes to fruit and vegetables, I hate almost all of them. There are some fruits and vegetables that I like, but I can't stand most of them. I can't stand the textures and flavors.
I also have a big sweet tooth. And it's difficult to control myself around candy, cookies, cake, brownies, etc.

I can eat about anything. I guess I do have phases where I'll cook/eat different stuff, but nothing really out of the ordinary. Just for a few months, I'll be really interested in Indian food, then Asian stir fries, but I'll never stop making them all together, I try to rotate everything. Some of it is, my mom buys most of my food, so I gotta make due with what ingredients she gets, so if she gets chicken, I gotta make something with chicken. But, I'll go through "phases" where I'll try out cooking different things. I always look for new food to try.
I'm actually quite food insensitive compared to most people. I can pretty much eat whatever's put in front of me, there's very few foods I dislike. Oddly, the foods I dislike other people don't have much problems with. I dislike hard boiled eggs, ketchup, and mayonnaise. On the extreme end of things, I'll have no problem eating the meat off fish heads, eating random animal organs, etc. Most of my friends think I'm somewhere along the lines of Andrew Zimmern or something.
So yeah, narrow eating habits is an ASD trait I didn't pick up. I'm pretty much the most openminded about food in my entire family, with my dad following suit.
EDIT:
I guess cooking and food would be a special interest of mine. Of course I consider my interest totally normal, but other people do find my cooking pursuits a bit on the obsessive side sometimes. But they also can't cook, so there.
