I don't know if they see me the same way or not. I also believe that you can have more than one best friend. I have a friend with whom I've known for more than 16 years and so I'd classify her as a best friend even though we don't hang out or talk nearly as much as we used to. I also have a friend who lives in the same town as I do and she has some mental problems so I can relate well to her, I get along with her really well and we do a lot together...I've known her for about 10 years and I'd classify her as a best friend as well. I'm pretty sure that they see me as at least a close friend.

I just notice that the majority of the time they're too selfish to even contact me; it's always me contacting them, unless they need help with something electronic-wise or issues with relationships/friends in their lives. It upsets me a lot. I'm always there for them, they're never there for me when I need them.

I have had that same thing throughout my teenage years and adult life-I also know the autistic loyalty-at the one place I work-I stayed there even though I went to another job-I just go there after my primary job and the owner has had others leave over the past 25 years and even divorced his first wife and got remarried and I am the only constant but when I need his help he is never available. My best friend from high school was more a brother to me than my own brotther and would do anything for him threw me away because of his neighbor making accusations about why I was visiting him. I havent been in touch in almost 2 years now and that was after not being in touch for 3 years and that was to tell him about my diagnosis of AS.

I have had times when the person I thought of as my best friend clearly didn't reciprocate the sentiment. Currently, tho', I am my best friend's best friend. :D

What's awkward for me right now is that there's someone who thinks I am their best friend & I don't feel that way about them, but I don't want to be rude or treat them the way I've been in the past. :?

This has been the case for me.

Pretty much all my friends who I considered "best friends" have been better friends with someone else. I've felt lonely and like they would rather hang out with the other person.

Right now, my female best friends are two friends who were neighbours with each other, and hung out much more often with each other than with me. Fast forward a few years when they are in different cities. They are still best friends and hang out, whereas I'm rarely invited to outings, but still consider them my best friends. I kinda feel left out.

I guess my boyfriend would be my best friend, if that counts. I've had better luck being friends with men, though they are still better friends with other men for obvious reasons.

I have found myself feeling angry and betrayed from time to time thinking "I would never do something like that to them" in reference to something bad that they did to me e.g. cancel our plans at the last minute etc but in general I'm happy with my best friends.

There are many words that are connected to loyalty, for example, loyalty can mean trustworthiness, reliability, dependability among others, and each attribute is highly valued in today’s society. In my argument, I will show my views of loyalty, the possible connection to aspergers, and the difficulty it causes as loyalty means many things to different people.

Trustworthiness: As far as loyalty goes, yes, I am a very loyal person to my best friends, and most of my friends reciprocate. Sometimes what I consider disloyal to a friend is completely different to what other people would consider disloyal. Disloyal to me would be letting another person read your text messages and allowing them to pretend to be you, even in small talk, which is common throughout youth, but this is acceptable to most.

Reliability: I am loyal because I am rarely late to any social gatherings with friends if possible. I am very particular with attention to time and it annoys me when others e.g. my friends are not the same as me. I feel stressed if my best friends are late.

Dependability: If I say that I will at a social event, I will be there unless something majorly goes wrong. I hate changing and cancelling plans; it gives me a headache.

I am the same way and if I am late or cant fulfill a promise I beat myself up-I have also been hurt many times over the years and I still keep coming back for more-I do not abandon or de friend people-I also say-pissing on a burning bridge fire is no way to put the fire out.

I had a best friend for a long time, from elementary school all the way up to the middle of high school. For the early part of that time I was also his best friend, but he just became more and more detached from me up until I finally blew up at him for never doing anything with me. We haven't spoken in almost two years and all I've heard of him is where he ended up going to college. Now I don't trust anyone to be a friend in the long term. I'm still worried my friends from last year will forget about me since I'm living in a different dorm than all of them this year.

I have never had a best friend but I am starting to think I have the framework for tem. It'll be nice to see how it fels having my loyalty returned when I have one...

Sometimes I have tried making friendships become best friend friendships but the feelings were unreturned.

My best friends have definitely told me they also think of me as a best friend.
