Yes, I make lists of all kinds of random stuff, but not to-do lists. That I keep in my head.

When I was a kid, I had a list of PlayStation (the first one; I am old 8) ) games I wanted my father to buy. I also used to write down every idea I had (they were mostly about computer games and comics). Nowadays, I rarely write down anything, because my memory is pretty good.

However, like Thomas Jefferson, I do keep track of every cent I gain or spend by registering my financial transactions on GnuCash (an open source accounting software). Of course, accounting is one of my current special interests, which explains a lot about this habit.

I used to do it far more than I do now. Usually I do it to organize my projects and prioritize things so that I can balance cash flow versus the time it takes me to complete certain phases of said project. I also used them to fix my life and make it more economically efficient. Thus, I was able to figure out where to spend money first in order to reduce total net monthly obligations and make it easier to do other things which would also reduce my obligations and so on. Eventually, I wound up making my life less expensive by a few hundred dollars a month and am now able to either put that money in savings or use it to improve other things. I only wish I had done this sooner as my life used to be total chaos economically and I only got things structured starting in my 30's.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one who makes lists for the fun of it! :D I have a huge ongoing list for all the shows that I remember watching as a child, as well as ones for interesting songs and films that I've seen, animated films that I want to see, musicals that I like and shortwave radio stations that I've come across. I'm also trying to make a list of songs that would be in a jukebox musical of Havemercy (I really have no idea why, it just seemed like a good idea at the time XD), but sadly I haven't gotten very far with it yet!

Who else here makes lists?

Yeah, I do something similar to your listing bands - only I make lists of the songs I want to buy from AmazonMP3 and sync to my Sansa Fuze player. :D They're sort of what you'd call "mental lists," tho.

I've also made lists called "Animated Characters I Would Hug the Snot Out Of if They Existed IRL" and a list of all the animated characters I've ever nursed a crush on. :D I'm really into animation.

Same, mostly for which games I want to play in order and what days to start them on. Sometimes I follow through but most of the time I don't.

Since the summer, I've figured out that lists help keep me organised and far more productive than I ever used to be: my desk is perpetually covered in sticky notes with lists of things that need doing. I also make lists of the things I'm interested in: I currently have a list outlining all the X-Men books and the order in which I need to buy them to be sure I get all 300+ issues, but don't wind up with any duplicates.

Making a list of things I have to do that day seems to be the only way I can get things done.
