No "common sense"?

Listen, no one knows everything, we all have strengths and weaknesses. Hopefully, we can continue to be life long learners and doers to the best of our abilities.

Common sense is what dullards hang their hat on. Generally those who I know that tout their own or deride others' lack of it are those who have an extremely myopic and limited view of the world. The same type of people that don't see value in education because they could barely tread water in high school despite trying and never having any real disabilities or other disadvantages.

Webalina, do you have 1 or 2 examples?

Sometimes people call "common sense" doing whatever advances you socioeconomically and "lack of common sense" doing something that doesn't.

For example, when I told my cousin that I had adopted 3 poor stray cats from the street, she called me "crazy", meaning "lacking common sense". If you analyse it a bit, someone alone and lonely, independent, with the money and the time and the caring to devote lavishly to 3 poor souls - what reason could make me crazy for doing that? Only 1 I can see: it won't advance my socioeconomic status.

A lot of things people refer to as "common sense" just show their lack of theory of mind in thinking that just because they know these things that means everyone knows these things.

I don't seem to have any kind of common sense. I often have to ask about things that everybody knows naturally, and I do really stupid things sometimes.

Yes I also get told I have no common sense. There was one time when I was starting to work in a daycare (in which the people working there were gradually more and more horrible to me) and I was asking a lot of -probably too many questions about the tasks I was supposed to do (details about the tasks) and the other workers were getting annoyed with me. They laughed at me but continued to give me answers sounding annoyed. I was outside of the main room at a sink but it was only separated from the main room by a baby gate. In the main room the other ladies started talking loudly about how "common sense intelligence is so important" and "no mater how much education people have...you can't teach that". I think they were talking about me and my lack of common sense........ in a very snide way.

Anyways this is just one example...I think I truly do lack common sense.

At another job I was given a list of contacts of other people in the workplace (this was placed on the desk I was going to work at-this was an office job) by my supervisor. He then talked to me about the list for a couple minutes and then he handed me a thumbtack and said "here no you can tack it on the wall. So i tacked the thumb tack on the wall....just the thumb tack......not the sheet of paper with the contacts. Then there was an awkward silence for a couple minutes and he gave me a strange look. After a painful few minutes I worked out what he must have meant and tacked the sheet up. I then thought to myself "wow I'm such an idiot...I have no common sense".

i am told frequently i dont have common sense. but its just that i dont understand their way of thinking :s

No common sense. Big deal.

Common sense brought us great things: war, genocide, oppression, racism, religionism, communism, brainless flag waving, sacrificing liberty for security.

Every human being lacks a lot more common sense than they care to admit. Aspies certainly aren't immune to brain farts, but neither are NT's.

Common sense will tell you that Earth, obviously, is flat. That's a comforting thought, because yes, I got told a lot and often that I lack common sense.
