My mom has been married three times, and my sister was saying one day about how she'd like to have a younger sister. I said that there was no way that was happening unless Mom got married again. I say that sort of thing to my sister sometimes, but only when we're alone. It didn't occur to me until after I said it that I should have kept my mouth shut. My mom got really mad, fortunately she got over it quick.

This confuses me. What is offensive about it?

When I was around 15 I told someone at our house that it was my "job" to do the chores and even cook because both my parents were at work all day. My parents were mortified because they felt I had made it sound as if they were terrible and I was like Cinderella or something, but I didn't even notice until my mother chewed me out over it some time later. She said I was old enough to know better than to say things like that. Back then I really didn't understand why I didn't know better at all. :(
