I can see your not 15

I am 26 and always get told how young i look. Every shop i go in to buy cigarettes i get questioned about my age and a few times have had arguments with the people.

Physical appearance doesn't always match the actual age - this happens in many people (NT or otherwise).

I had a classmate who always looked 5 years older. People usually tell me I look younger than my 27 years.


It is important to keep in mind that age doesn't really represent how mature a person is.

I get this all the time. I'm 36 and people generally don't believe it. I will say that I've probably aged noticeably in the last few years, but I still look young.
Once, when I was 31, I got carded going to an R-Rated movie! I still get carded buying beer occasionally, even though I have a beard and mustache (sometimes.)
It bothers me less as I've gotten older. The only thing that bugs me is that people sometimes still treat me like a kid - sometimes people younger than me even do it. That's lessened with time as well.
I'm not sure if my young appearance is related to ASD or not. The NT members of my family also look young for their ages, so I think I've just got the genes for it.

The ironic part of all this is that I feel really old, as if my young adulthood has slipped away.

Sometimes out of curiosity I've Google image searched for images of people my age and it can vary a lot. I think for example a party lifestyle takes it's toll on people. Also, alcohol or cigarretes.

From my POV I might see people my age (36) who look 45 to me.

I've been called kid in the street, and im 20, when i started college at 15, people always looked at me like a weird bug, because i looked like i was 12, and they thought i was a genius, but they were wrong.

I'm 27 and have a beard. I only tend to get carded when I shave.

I had my age guessed at 18 on Sunday. I am 22. That's pretty consistent, I had it guessed at 14 when I was 17, so I seem to be staying roughly the same amount of years younger than I am.

OP, You look VERY young for your age. You have what is known as a baby face. Your expression is also youthful, and as someone else mentioned, you have soft looking skin, which is associated w/ youth.

When I tell people I'm a sophomore in college, they don't believe me. They're always like, "Are you sure? You look like you could still be in high school!" I just turned twenty! But I guess the fact that I'm only five foot-one and pretty thin kinda contributes to this.

Then again, my mom got carded at Spec's on her fortieth birthday. And she's about as neurotypical as they come! So it might be on a genetic level, too.

I've always been the opposite. From about age 13 onwards people thought I was much older than I was; I was able to walk into (unscrupulous) shops and buy cigarettes and alcohol. I would get asked for ID sometimes but I had a convincing fake. From age 16 onwards I have been asked for ID twice in total I believe. I actually never thought I looked particularly old but I suppose the results speak for themselves. Nowadays most people who guess my age guess it correctly to within about 5 years; in the past year or so I have had people tell me I look in my mid 30s and (fewer) people tell me I look in my mid 20s. edit: Might be worth mentioning I've had a full face beard since about age 18 which can make you look older.

people always think in 16, sometimes younger, sometimes slightly older. i think it's because i'm short and thin, dress in hand me downs from my sisters, don't wear make up and i think my demeanor is... i don't know- i get told i look innocent or weak or vulnerable or school girlish. that might have something to do with it.
