I chose the third option. I don't think I would normally go as far as death to protect someone like that, but if I was in a suicidal mood (not an uncommon occurrence), I likely would.

No, I would help but not die. Also our first concern should not always be to die. Why do we always perceive self sacrifice. A better question is would you risk your life? not would you die. I would risk my life but I wouldn't knowingly march to my death.
