I'm not bossy now, but when I was a four or five year old I was unbearably bossy, if not an outright bully. However, when people told me that I was, I had no idea what they were talking about. My recall is nearly perfect (I even remember marks on the wall and the pattern of the floor). I liked being around other kids, but I had absolutely no idea how to relate to them.
This was also manifested by what my family called showing off, but what I now call 'going bonkers'. Other kids would leave in exasperation. I had in my mind a picture of kids jumping around together whenever they played, and was simply trying very hard to replicate that behaviour and live out my notion of playing.
