i cant always stand the sound of tantrums from toddlers, although i do like babies and small children otherwise.

its hard driving a bus when you got a toddler screaming on the bus. i dont think anybody likes that though, whether your a passenger or a driver, because buses are enclosed spaces and so you cant escape or block it out. and its hard for me when im driving. but its worse when small kids start being naughty, once i had one right behind the cabin thing what i sit in, and he kept kicking his feet up against it and also pressing the bell thing, so in the end i had to tell the child off, i didnt like to though. the mother just sat there with her back to him on the phone. thats even more annoying and was probably why the child was behaving like that, to get attention.

Yes! I simply leave the area when that happens. It just happened last night, when I was at the store to get groceries, etc. I had most of what I needed when an unsupervised, uncontrolled, undisciplined toddler began to shriek for no reason (all the way at the other side of the store someplace), but it was enough that I was good & ready to pay & leave without getting the rest of items on the list.

I can't bear it. A screaming child and I put my fingers in my ears and move away as quick as possible.
I understand children are naturally noisy, I just don't want to be anywhere near.

It depends on the pitch of the scream.

There is a particular frequency range that some babies, children and small dogs emit that I experience as a brutal attack, something like and ice pick being driven into my ear by a mallet.

This causes an involuntary whole body twitch and an intense desire to flee.

Screams at other frequencies are not nearly as objectionable.

When I was a child I was constantly told that little girls should be seen and not heard.
I was brought up to be quiet and well behaved, as were my own children. In summer, where I live, there is the constant (well it seems constant) sound of children screaming. They don't seem to be able to play without screaming as loudly as possible. I really do not it understand it and I hate it. I know children get very excited at times, but all day every day?
So the answer to the question is yes, I want to go away but so often cannot escape from it.

I think everyone is somewhat annoyed by a child's screaming hence why some businesses will "ask" you to leave if your child is screaming.
