I am tired of people treating me like I am slow
Yeah some people treat me like I'm slow which is annoying, and some people treat me like I'm supposed to be some kind of genius because they read somewhere that all aspies are super smart which is equally annoying. I'm not stupid but I'm not a genius either and I wish people would understand that.
I think I am a bit slow as regards processing of my thoughts into speech and multi-tasking in thoughts and action, so I can't blame some people for making this assessment. I'm not intellectually slow though so it's not the full picture. I can usually make a connection with people who are able to overcome how I come across and focus more on what I'm saying than how I come across while saying it.
I can't be bothered to prove myself to people who want to judge me as stupid - it's their loss as far as I'm concerned and we rarely have anything in common anyway. Is it so terrible to think more slowly than another person anyway?

People treat me like I'm slow because (I think) I don't always get jokes and can't really participate in banter. When someone says something unexpected I just get flustered and clam up. I also can't always follow verbal instructions and keep track of what's going on around me. I most likely don't know the day of the week at a given time. I suppose I am slow, in a way. It would be easier to accept that if I hadn't grown up being told I was a genius, and simultaneously hearing my parents talk about less intellectually "gifted" people as though they were worthless scum.
