I've never been on medication for special interests. I've been on medication for other things, anxiety, AD/HD and things I was never told why, but NOTHING could never kill my special interests...and I wouldn't want anything to either. I think the only way to kill my special interests would be to kill me.

Been on medications for several years now and not noticed my ravenous appetite for interests diminish or increase, they are part of my very bones and unmoved by the tide of chemicals it seems, they have to bounce off the bedrock of my bones and obey the resolute fact that my interests are permanently interesting to me.

I don't think my medication has affected my special interests. However, I have not been medication-free since I was seven, so I don't know how intense they would be if I were to go off of everything (which is a scary thought). I personally think that even with all the stuff I take, my special interests are intense.

Yes yes! I was very interested in horse breeding in an online game and would spend many hours a day in game, but as soon as I started taking Topiramate my interest in the game and breeding horses within the game faded. It actually felt very odd as I have had trouble pulling myself away from online gaming for a couple decades now, and just by popping a pill that intense desire was just gone. Other focused interests are back, like aquascaping and stuff. I'm not sure exactly why the change from interests, but upon researching it, others have found the medication to help with addictive behaviors. I still lose hours in my interests, but now I have a few, rather than just one. I dunno, but the medication definitely changed what I was drawn to doing.

Nothing kills my interests more than depression. So any medications that help lift me out have only helped my interests. Plenty of medications have made my depression worse, so these would be the ones I would say yes, that they have negatively impacted my interests.

It's hard to say as I've been on various medication with varying consistency. I don't always have a special interest on the go but when I do, it's pretty intense and becomes all I want to do, think, and talk about. Eventually it fades out though and isn't always automatically replaced.

Right now I take fluoxetine (prozac) which is used for anxiety, depression, and OCD. Beforehand I had some negative obsessions as well as an obsession with autism that was very self-centered... now all of that has lessened which may be the medication or may just be a natural progression. Given the nature of the drug I wouldn't be surprised if it mutes positive 'special' interests/ obsessions.
