I'd call myself a geek, but I'd also call myself independent which some have come to like (others, despise).

I look for other "geeks" to date, though

I know i'm a geek. I never hang out with friends cause i'm too busy playing FF7 and watching Road Rovers on YouTube during the weekends. In FF7, all my characters are eligible for their final limit break and Aeris, Red 13 and Cait Sith already know theirs!

I can't speak for everyone else here, but I'm a geek.

Ja I am a geek. But let me take a min, I am not a computer geek, I can drive 'em (barely) but cannot wrench them. I am a bit older than summa yew. My generation came upon compys at an elevated age. i wasa well into college when the altair happened.
My geekiness is radio. i sit for hours listening to AM BCB, SW, FM, and a scanner capable of all of them and UHF and VHF. I will have the broadcast on one and local emergency and RR on the other. I never got a general radiotelephone operator's tag 'cause i kinna do code - as is too clumsy. But Hallaflakingloulah! The FCC is dropping code! So I may get on the mic yet!

Nerds didn't use to be cool, but in the 90's that all changed. It used to be that, if you were a computer expert, you had to wear plaid or a pocket protector or suspenders or something that announced to the world that you couldn't quite fit in. Not anymore. Now, the intelligent and geeky have eked out for themselves a modicum of respect at the very least, and "geek is chic." The Modern, Cool Nerd is intelligent, knowledgeable and always the person to call in a crisis (needing computer advice/an arcane bit of trivia knowledge). They are the one you want as your lifeline in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (or the one up there, winning the million bucks)!

I'm the same way. A geek is defined by not being popular, a nerd is someone like steve urkel. I mean, I'm attractive (though a bit skinny), I usually dress in a t-shirt and jeans, I listen to rock, metal, rap, and other upbeat forms of music, I have long hair and side burns, and a tattoo, I'm a stoner and I occassionally drink alittle, these things cut me off from being called a nerd. Being a nerd isn't neccessarily a bad thing either though.

I'm an Otaku, so I am kinda a geek already. ^^U
