Someone told me once that Aspies have a hard time believing in God because we tend to be so literal.
Yet I am 100% Aspie and a Roman Catholic priest. This will be my sixth Christmas as a priest.
Bear with me in what I am going to say. I'm pouring out my heart here:
The piece of bread that I will take at the altar will become Jesus' body - literally, no "NT" metaphor at all. The wine will become his blood, literally.
The bread will still taste like bread and the wine will taste like wine, because the Lord knows that there are certain "textures" and "tastes" that no man can tolerate. (I think we Aspies understand that!)
Sometimes I wonder if Jesus Christ was himself an Aspie. He would have had a photographic memory. He would have been sensitive to every stimulus -- so much so that he had a meltdown in the Garden of Gethsemane. His brain would have been hyper-connected, because he was a genius. He would have been able to see the world differently from others. And he was the ultimate outsider. And the NT's -- the ones in power -- crucified him.
It's just something for all of us to think about. I'm not saying Jesus was an Aspie. But if there is anyone who understands what we live through every day, I believe it is Jesus.
Whether you believe in God or Jesus or not, I want to thank and bless all of you at WP. I will pray for all of you when I say Mass tonight. Peace on earth and to each of you.

I have wondered a similar thing about Jesus myself. These days I have issues with my faith...I lost it. Too many years of abuse from the human race to continue believing in a god I'm afraid. However, all the same, I do feel that son of god or not, jesus was a remarkable man who deserves a little remembrance now and then.

Happy birthday to him even if I they got his actual birth date wrong.

Was it not supposed to be in September?

The last I heard there was a mix up when they did the calenders but I could be out of date with things as I've not looked into anything religion related in a long time.

I don't believe in God yet Christmas means something to me - in a positive sense. Perhaps because my mind is too literal, I don't know. My grandmother wanted me to believe but my parents, especially my father, were firm atheists and prevented her attempts to make me a believer.

I have no clue about Jesus' "spiritual dna,' but I have wondered if he was autistic myself. For the reasons you stated but also because he was definitely not a herd personality. He did not care about anyones social status, and , like many autists, he was COMPULSED to stand up for what he believed in.

Merry Christmas everyone. I'll be spending the big day itself with my parents and my sister. I hope those of you who will be alone have an enjoyable holiday period.

"It's XMAS with an X"

While the church bells ring,
And the people turn deaf,
Fast asleep
in their speeding cars.

And do they care?
I think not.
Just paper green is in their
Minds.

The songs are played
in the radios.
Blaring or singing,
I don't know?.....
"Do they know its Christmas
Time?"

Never you mind,
Just a machine.
Asking the people to listen ,
They think for free.

While apathy abounds ,
the poor are ignored.
Within them a sadness
that they store.

Alone and together
They huddle with fear
Of the night panther
That stalks their
Dears.

A bubble hovers,
Overhead these souls
And within,
Mystic thoughts
Appear.

Can't the people stop?
Can't they be still,
And see the world for what it is?

There won't be salvation as the Preachers exclaim!
But it's not heaven or hell,
I'm afraid of,
It's what's here
on earth.

Merry XMAS and thanx for all the support .
